While this series has been discussed in other threads, it needs its own home.
I just recently bought digital versions of 1 and 2, and am playing through them again in anticipation of 3.
Unlike most games I'm excited for, I am going for a 100% blackout on anything related to ME3 (including news, reviews, demos, etc.)
I just accidentally heard something about multiplayer today and am intrigued.

Who else thinks this is, by far, the best new video game series of this console (and PC) generation?

I played through 1, it was ok. I much preferred all the sidequests in the citadel to the bulk of the rest of the game.

I'm going through Mass Effect 1 again now. Hopefully will be all the way through both Mass Effects by the time 3 comes out. This is going to be the Shepard whose choices will follow through the whole trilogy for me.

That's exactly what I am going for. I actually have a save file for ME1 and 2 on my Xbox, but that piece of crap won't read disks, so going for my paragon Shepard for the whole trilogy on PC. It's fine, anyway. I forgot some of the story (especially what happened in ME1).

EDIT: Actually, just read there's a tool for transferring your ME save from the Xbox to the PC.
Oh well, wanted to play through them again anyway.

Same here - I want to re-play ME2 because it was so much fun but I already have my 1 -> 2 -> saves lined up!
I'll be interested to see how they tweak the gameplay this time around-- going full Adept in 1 was amazing but they nerfed it for 2. I want my impossibly godlike powers back :P

I still need to complete a number of the ally achievements in ME1, what a fucking pain in the ass! I really don't like vague terminology like "complete a majority of the game with..."

Still, I find ME (both) to be so much fun that I shouldn't whine so much. Both games have such awesome music too...a really epic feel...and such vivid characters and experiences.

Love the bit of the single player portion of the ME3 demo right before the title was plastered, nice and brutal :) Didn't finish the next leg because I couldn't save and had to go. Still, pretty good stuff, more of what I like :)

I just wish you could skip cinematics!

Let's definitely be clear, Mass Effect 1 is my favourite game of all time, and Mass Effect 2 is probably in my top 5 or so. I love these games, and I am SUPER pumped for ME3. (I've even read the first 3 books *shame*)

The biggest problem I have with Mass Effect 2 is how they removed the Charm and Intimidate stats that you could level up as you saw fit. In ME2, if you do good stuff, you get Paragon points, if you do bad stuff, you get Renegade points, and that determines whether or not you will be able to access certain dialog options later in the game.

THIS IS A PROBLEM WITH MODERN VIDEO GAMES

It's so strange that they actually created a new and exciting way to deal with good and evil in ME1, but got rid of it for ME2. I find both the extreme Paragon and extreme Renegade characters so unrealistic that I can't, no matter how hard I try, role play those characters. There are always some choices where I have to not go all the way evil or good, even if I think my guy is pure evil or pure good. I just can't understand the character, if he is extreme one way or another. I have no idea how he could always think that is the best course of action. It really sucks that they tie you down in ME2, and force you to play all the way evil to access some game content. It doesn't allow you to create a nuanced character like ME1 did. In ME1, you could max out Charm and Intimidate, and then actually role play a character the way you wanted. I, for example, based my character on Picard. I really tried to get into the mind of the character. What is more important, the mission, or dicking around, etc.

As a result, I missed the sex scene on my first play through (and had no idea that there even was one), and ended the game with about 65% renegade 35% paragon. The mission was my priority, and I felt more bad ass than any other game I've ever played.

I later finished an 90% renegade character in ME1, and that is the character I carried over into ME2. Even being as mean and as self centered as I could be, I still didn't finish ME2 with enough renegade points to access the games most crucial moments. I really felt like they dropped the ball there.

the TL;DR

I really hope they fix the Paragon Renegade points thing or ME3. Bring back Charm and Intimidate.

it was hard to have access to both renegade and paragon speech options in ME1 because how you level them up (replaying it right now):

You can only put points in charm or intimidate after you've done enough renegade or paragon actions. It's not like any of the other stats (which are based off your level and what you've previously spent points on).

While it's true early in the game to have both renegade and paragon options open to you, the further you are in the game, the more points in either charm/intimidate you need. And the only way to get enough of the points is to play a specific build (either good or bad).

It's exactly like the ME2 system except ME2 just cut out the middle man of actually putting points in charm/intimidate.

I have every achievement in both ME1 and ME2.

I might actually love this series as much as Zio does, but only time will tell who will come out on top.

I've already reserved ME3, and am picking it up on launch day.

I'm kinda glad we have this thread now, and not just the ME2 thread.

Engineer Shepard (oil/scar-covered old man) and Insanity Shepard (Master Xehanort) are ready for ME3.

You don't have to, but I don't see why you wouldn't.

Although, you will be lost in some of the story if you don't at least read what had happened before.

But seriously, if you are planning to play 2 and 3, start with 1. It would be like watching The Empire Strikes back and Return of the Jedi, but completely skipping over A New Hope.

Only if you want your decisions/character to carry over into ME3.

It's a shame this comes out right after Shervfest. :/
Just like every version of the game I'll get 3 for cheap and then probably play through it a year or two after everyone else does. Pretty stoked though.

I think that the only way you're going to nail a 10 (or 11) girl is if you have millions of dollars, a non maniac mansion, a bichon frise with a bow on it's head, a yacht, and multiple fast cars! i'm so sorry :/
