Try the "NEW! IMPROVED!" boss strat, btw. It's been pretty foolproof for me so far, and I'm a damn fool.

This stage feels pretty unforgiving with a lack of checkpoints so far.
I did really like the flashback boss rush in Stage 5, though. I'm familiar with most of those bosses thanks to the Nintendo Arcade cab.
I'm at the last boss and having a hell of a time trying to figure out the "arm" thing on my own (avoided spoilers on that one thus far). Klat, give me your strength and wisdom!

Beat it!
Thanks to merc for the tips! End boss was kind of annoying, but I'll give 'em style points for the kill method. It took me forever leading up to that, because I kept thinking each previous phase had some sort of trick to it, but it wasn't until the end.
Advanced Mission start? No thank you.
Neat game, though.

I was a little too exhausted to give my reflections on the game last night, so I'll do that now:
I came into this game with something of a bias against, thanks to the music, but I'm forced to agree that this is one of the better shoot'em-ups on the SNES. I'd personally still put UN Squadron above it, but I totally appreciate how subtly (but radically) different it is from other shooters I've played. Unrelentingly hard, but with the checkpoint system you're allowed to practice problem areas until you get 'em right. It feels sort of like they're grooming you for a 1CC run, because you can practice it the way a speedrunner would. And as much as I hated the two "figure this out" parts near the end, I can grudgingly admit that it adds some spice to a genre that generally doesn't encourage creative thinking.
One thing: I had to leave my SNES on for a few days to beat this, because I only played it for like 30-45 minutes at a time. I didn't want to start it over every damn time. Is that cheese? I dunno.

(I would argue good shmups do encourage creativity, btw! Playing something like Battle Garegga for score, for example, necessitates a lot of experimentation and thinking outside the box. That's probably too easy an example, though - hell, a good Garegga run involves a lot of dying on purpose.

Nah, that's grand, although - and this is probably the worst time to mention it - there is a level-select cheat.
Yeah, no biggie. It's a thin line of differentiation, but I try to avoid codes when I'm "seriously" trying to beat a game. Though the end result wouldn't have been much different (less power used), so next time I should probably just use the code.

I suck at it, but this game is pretty tight. There's a lot of flexibility with the Force choices (until you die, that is).
I have yet to beat Level 1, but Force - Type 2 is really nice.

I'm going to go ahead and start next month's entry tomorrow, but as always- don't be afraid to bump this thread just because the month is over. That goes for previous months as well- if there's still discussion to be had, or if you need tips or whatever... don't be shy!

Shadow is my favorite pod so far, I might stick with it.
