Maverick Rising

Or in Brandon's Case, being under the impression(from whomever) that it was coming out on one day;and uploading a video to unlock on that day; and then when it comes the like thing was out. Brandon felt pretty bad about that from what he told me.(Because of the whole "songs shouldn't be leaked" principle. Whereas for example my bonus track, is just a vast overhaul of an existing song so ,, yeah whatevs lol)
Hopefully though now, Maverick Rising will serve as an example for the future on how things should be handled in every way.
Some of us will know exactly the things I speak of.
(I think a good thing would be to establish a good set of rules and guidelines when a project is being developed. Like, types of mastering for different songs, loudness in terms of -RMS on a per genre or an album wide basis, whether vocal songs should have instrumental versions, etc anything related to the music and project as a whole really)
ALSO: My only gripe with the album, is really with Gario's MMX4 track. The mastering seems to have been messed up. And I love that song to death.
Also: Maybe the vocal songs could've had instrumental versions, perhaps that would've saved the disdain from "Anti-Vocal people"!
Edit:I realized just now, that maybe you guys did communicate it somehow before it was released. And It's my fault for not looking in on the forums over at OCR enough.

Mastering is a more tricky detail. I originally was going to have bLiNd do it as you already know BONKERS, but he had to back out, and then things became a mess when i had to leave for boot camp, so here it ended up being artists giving their own mastered versions. The thing is, unless someone absolutely amazing does the mastering (which I had struck with bLiNd), some artists are going to complain about the mastering job done on their music, which is a fair critique. bLiNd was going to communicate with each artist over the mastering to get it right. If I go that route for the future, I think I will make sure the person doing the mastering talks to the artist to make sure it's to the artists' satisfaction. A hard standard would make things tricky though, the logistics is rough as it is.

Oh yeah for sure man. What I meant by my suggestions though, is that these standards can be observed by the artists themselves when they master their own songs!I actually tried to get instrumental versions for all of the songs with vocals as bonus tracks, but all of the artists involved did not wish to do so or could not finish alternate versions in time. I don't wish to push that hard though because I feel it's ultimately how the artist wants to present their music that matters more.

(In a scenario where they aren't sure on how loud etc they should make their songs)
Most mastering suites that I can think of have some form of loudness or at least meter level monitoring!
So say for example, say it was like this.
"Okay , for Metal songs we really don't want to push past this threshold of loudness and rape the listener's eardrums. Therefore when mastering your songs please observe an Average peak(the highest/loudest it gets) -RMS between -13dBFS and -8dBFS. Allowing for some measure of dynamics if you so wish with your song/s. And make sure when bouncing a MasterMix down to a .wav for bouncing you allow for headroom, so you can apply make up gain."
Something along those lines maybe.
I've never seen something like that in practice but it never hurts to try new ideas. It seems sound at least in theory in MAH NOGGIN.

I used to go hard -14db on ANY SONG I mastered and now I am trying to win the loudness war and it's pretty cool
I plan on recording a pretty barebones metal thing in the vein of Kataklysm and it'll probably be louder

While I follow the logic- and followed it before, I just think it's messed up if this was done without asking anyone about it beforehand. Ultimately it ISN'T that big of a deal because it was only two days, but it's the forced pandering that bothers me. Also, to pull that off in two days, obviously tons of "HEY EVERYONE LIKE THIS PAGE!" had to be done. Smart marketing? sure. But it just bothered me.
In the end, it's your project, and if i can say one thing with 100% certainty it's this: OCR or not, it's YOUR project, so you can do, and should do, whatever you want with it. But when it involves other artists, it's good to at the very least keep them in the loop.
Briefly on the point about my art stuff: not that it's really related to this conversation but, if anyone had issue with my only putting it on the shizz or.. facebook, well, oh well! facebook in particular is public, so all they have to do is click on a link. You don't even need facebook to view it- I made sure to set it up that way. And theres not really any shizz-only stuff, except DoD. But again.. thats just public. And it's specifically for DoD. Don't misunderstand me, i'm not saying "grr bahamut! why do you ONLY work with OCR!" You can work with whoever you want.

Thanks for the nice reasoned reply, Bahamut (and no, thats not sarcasm).

Hey, that's cool, and I can understand.
About the artwork thing - I was just using an analogy with a hypothetical, it wasn't a criticism or anything

The album is good to me, i was dissapointed at first, but now i have more than 30 songs that i like, i could say that i expected more, but there are some really good songs in it, in the end, i found what i wanted.
More of the songs have grown on me as well but not nearly as much as I'd like. Mega Man X series has a TON of great sources.

I've put together 'the list' of the songs I'd use to cut the album down to 1.
These are just my opinions of the best songs mind you.
1. 1993 (MMX- Title)
2. Super Fighting Robot X (MMX - Opening Stage)
3. Cybernetic Coelacanth Submarine (MMX - Bubble Crab Stage)
4. Sigma Opus (MMX - Sigma Stage 1)
5. String Chamellotron (MMX - Sting Chameleon)
6. Primulaceae Rosa (MMX8 - Primrose)
7. Duality (MMX5 - X vs. Zero)
8. The Leidenfrost Effect (MMX3 - Blizzard Buffalo)
9. Towering Revolution (MMX - Boomer Kuwanger)
10. Crawfish Crackdown (MMX3 - Crush Crawfish)
11. Sweeping the Storming Skies (MMX - Storm Eagle)
12. Braving the Storm (MMX - Chill Penguin, Dr. Light Capsule)
13. Zero and the Plight of Iris (MMX4 - Opening Stage: Zero) [Epic Dialogue is epic]
No Congregation of the Fallen? (bias)
Anyway, glad you liked my song. Also, please note, it was miscredited, so it should only say "Monobrow" on it

There are a lot of songs that are pretty decent but I feel, to me, that these are the cream of the crop. There were a lot of close calls though. Also I assume you mean the Bubble Crab song?
