Fuck Rscall Flats, I worked at an outdoor venue and one of my last jobs was to work security at a Rascall Flatts concert. The rednecks got retard strong and pissed off like faggots, and I ended up beating the shit out of some redneck faggot in the parking lot because he got out of his car, nad started beating on another redneck in another car. I ended up tearing my deltoid in my left arm. And the company that hired me wouldnt cover it because I was technically off duty at the time, I broke up the fight in the parking lot leaving after work. So they wouldn't cover it. I worked one more show after that, Crue Fest, during which no fights too place. And I still caught crowd surfers at the pit barricade even with a torn deltoid, cause I am a fucking badass... but seriously country rednecks are the worst... horrible poeple...

I'm really not sure what makes you think those slurs are appropriate and appreciated on this board.

this has been bothering me lately.

when my roomate moved in, he came from the army, and used the word faggot a lot and still does to a point. in the army there is a culture of homophobia and hate there, but also a partial emptiness to the words as they are sometimes used endearingly when referring to each other. but they also use N and F words at people they don't like too.

so there's the army saying these things.
and the uneducated in general, and their ignorance is understandable.

but then there is 4chan as leaders of the internet youth, which is or will be basically tantamount to all youth.
why do they speak in constant slurs? coming off like straight hillbillies often enough.
they always seem to defend it as just words without hate, but why bother? is it simple trolling?
knowing that saying 10lb cusses can get a reaction is enough for them to actually adopt certain words as their baseline vocabulary?

i feel like it's just one more bit of evidence that society is devolving at an exponential rate.

seems like racism is on the upturn, too.
or at least racial tension. how can that be? why is there re-segregation?
i don't mean to tack that on without an anecdote. i can say that in my city there is very frightening race-related violence. it makes me want to shut down and give up. it also makes me want to publicly destroy all the KKK and hate groups. but i wonder if that would really do anything.

where does the hate come from if not from the impoverished. they do it because they are uneducated, but why do the rich do it too, and everyone in between? why does entertainment seem to tell me that cultural barriers are impossible to break down? that white, black, gay and straight can't fully coexist?
i guess by virtue of me needing to even word the question that way, i answer it too.

EDIT:

sorry brandon, didnt mean to pick on you

here is the official statement of brandon on it just to make it official:

also, why do people increasingly seem to speak to friends in a derogatory manner?
i've seen it just sort of take over our culture over the course of 2 decades. people are very comfortable calling each other stupid, slutty, etc, or saying fuck-you or shut-the-fuck-up in a serious tone that's always seemingly understood as joking.

are people so hardened that words like this don't hurt anymore?
are we so demoralized that it's normal to to think of our existence as low and worthy of defaming at every opportunity?
why is self-deprecating humor so popular?

Preface: On the Hate Groups
You know what? I don't believe it. Here in Ohio, stuff isn't that bad. There are boneheads here and there but that's everywhere.
I feel that these hate groups are an extreme minority that is just being vocal and violent to get attention, trying to appeal to people that are the lowest common denominator.
It doesn't necessarily work in the long run, as it has shown that these courses of action further isolate and alienate the group from society for the very reasons you were posting about, they made you want to shut down.
The Government doesn't want you to shut down, and that's one of the cool things about government; if your rights and/or the rights of others are being oppressed and make you feel this way, they tend to not appreciate the drop in productivity produced by the negativity these groups tend to emit.

We just have to get vocal about it ourselves, tell them if they want isolation, take it to northern canada or the saharan desert, or maybe the Spain and see how they're treated?

Those Spanish priests realize who those KKK guys are AND see them in blasphemous uniform? I believe a uniformly repentant beat-down would be in order. (joke)

It isn't, though. If you know someone, which we assume you to as the question was about speaking to friends, it takes approximately no iotas of anything to think of something pleasant to say to them. Human beings do this all the time, with people they don't know well, and often throw in a nicety like "I can tell you're a person of good taste, because $SHOES" or whatever. But Cetera is right, it does seem like the better you know someone, the more acceptable it suddenly seems that you can take the piss out of them and no one will think anything of it. This is crappy behavior, but it does go on all the time.

It should be just as effortless to pay someone a compliment as to deride them. I bet, if you pay attention, you will find you see a lot more of the latter.
Where you are I'll always go, I hear your voice on the radio...

My theory: the crap is always lurking beneath the surface, but whenever people get into insular communities it all comes pouring out. Compare your language with a couple of close friends your age with your language at a family gathering. On the Internet you get the effect with larger groups. With so many contributors, a cornucopia of foul language springs forth and becomes part of normal discourse.

there is foul language like cock and pussy, yea.

but then there is language that could be seen as indicative of something bigger.

if tolerance is going to be the norm for the new age, why are the kids calling each other nigr fgots?

The genius trick of rightists and ignorant twats in general is that they manage to pass off their racism, homophobia etc as somehow taboo and rebellious, and as though the "PC brigade" is trying to silence them, when in reality they represent the majority - the average bloke in a pub. They construct themselves as the last (or the real) oppressed minority, in the most tawdry way, when they and their ideologies enjoy full-spectrum dominance.

I think you hit it on the head with the "uneducated" classification.
Those with limited vocabularies use racial slurs in derogatory manner not because they are homophobic (well, some are) but because they lack the knowledge of a more appropriate word. Your example is the perfect representation of this.

I suspect it is a culmination of a lot of factors. A rise in individualism, increasing financial and obvious racial inequality latent from decades past, fear culture, etc.

I try to be optimistic and think that this is merely the consequent of good changes to our culture merely testing the boundary/counter culture. Society is going overkill with a few good concepts and technologies resulting in smaller community ties and we are waiting for the backlash that will bring people back to a more sustainable lifestyle/culture.

Semi-related is the rise in cynicism. The most popular comedians typically use extreme humour that pushes beyond the boundary of what we typically allow in our common courtesy. Louis C.K., Carlin, Hicks just to name a few of the big ones.

Slurring/insulting out of affection reminds me of a statement a friend once said when a husky (but by no means fat) friend voiced that he didn't like it when people would playfully call him fat-ass/fat-fuck etc.

"I wouldn't call a retarded person retarded and I'm not going to call a fat guy a fat-ass"

It sort of goes back to our hyper-culture and applying the extreme to excess.

Self-depreciation works like this for the same reason, though is also fueled by the images we are shown of how people ought to look. Even if you don't think about it, there is this subconscious elephant in the room that our insecurities are only our own and those things are not deemed good in light of popular imagery. Calling ourselves out on it gives that same semi-cynical, bow to popular image, OMG YOU SHOULDN'T SAY THAT kick that we've been adoring for decades.

Take as you will/all merely conjecture.

I doubt 9 inches would play much into a relationship, if at all.

I honestly can't remember the last time I heard someone say "Faggot" in a way that was actually meant to refer to a homosexual person. I think the word has almost completely changed its meaning and turned into a generic insult.

i think its reflective of my least favorite trend in the world that seems to be getting worse: celebrating ignorance, and willful apathy towards trying to inform yourself. it manifests in things like being proud to 'not be no educated n****r lover' (something which was literally said to me on the forum for our local left-leaning paper), poor people being convinced to vote and vocalize against programs that help the poor by the horribly manipulative right wing elite, and refusal to learn anything about the actual immigration situation in states like mine.

it sounds elitist as fuck, but most people are really just stupid. not because they started that way but because its encouraged by the education system, media and political machine. people who do things like question the status quo, analyze their surroundings and have empathy for strangers make for bad consumers, possibly 'problematic' citizens, and develop distaste for the shitty lives they lead

(and yes, we all do these things, because its hard to totally escape them. the best we can do is try to go against the current at every turn)
(it involves satan disguising himself as a bird who unlocks police cars!)
