the time has come for me to join a dating site.
apologies if there's already a thread but i wanted
some new opinions on sites because i heard a couple
of folks on here are on some.

so anyone have any experience with these? one better
than another? features that suck on one? tell me about
these sites so that i may port yet another part of my life
onto the internet...

I've never really put much into dating sites, but then my last and current girlfriend... I met them both off of dating sites and to be honest, they're the most normal people I have ever dated. Normal in the sense that they don't have any dangerous psychological problems, and can hold down a career. Nice... :o

i've had numerous friends find success with eharmony.

I'd suspect that by sticking to the most popular ones, you're getting the most options

This is true, but in my experience, I have not met anybody online who was extremely schizo, bipolar, or convicted for assisting in car theft. Girls I meet at the bar, I can't say the same.

EDIT: no offense to anyone here who has a psychological problem. I just don't want to be in a relationship where I'm afraid of the crazy person trying to knife me through the door. :)

Let me add "Been there, done that" to my edit :P I will also mention that jumping out of a window was not the happiest way for me to end a relationship.

Yeah, the usual caveats of "be careful who you meet online" apply. Meet in a public place, don't give out your phone #/address right away, etc.

I've only had any success with OkCupid, and I've had some good ones. I've met some duds, but my current girlfriend of over a year I met from there. She also has a friend who met a dude from there and they ended up getting married and they seem to be doing great.

I've tried plentyoffish, and it seemed like the ghetto of dating sites. Awful interface, and users seem not to put much thought into their profiles. Maybe it's improved since I last tried it a couple years ago, I dunno.

Then there's craigslist. I'd recommend to go ahead and not bother.
