Just a heads up that I'm seeing a fuckton of requests come in for suites. If you guys were going to get one this year, I highly recommend getting on it as soon as humanly possible.

This would be a good time to rekindle our discussion of an alternative to the suite...or did we discover/realize that there really isn't an alternative? The suite has become a bit too stressful for one person to be responsible for, from damages to cleaning to the amazing disappearing beer.

On a related side-note, Nick, can we work out getting an all-shizz & all-magfest floor or wing? Last year was a good step forward but we still had babies and geriatrics adjacent to the suite and the hotel needs to understand that it's in THEIR best interest as well to keep us together and away from the normals, if possible.

You'll never get an area cordoned off specifically for you, but the more single rooms you get in a block, the more buffer you have on either side.

This, please. We don't need old men in wheelchairs and sleeping babies to be woken up by the Shizz suite again.

Yes, all of you who opted to not take a room within the Shizz block last MAG, I'm holding you directly responsible for making babies cry.

I'm willing to help chip in $50-100 on the suite even though I wouldnt be staying there because it's pretty much my favorite part about magfest

Also, I'm not positive, but I think the suites are all on the inner ring of the hotel, so you would probably need 2 other atrium view rooms as a buffer on either side, and those rooms cost more than the regular room.

Is there any word on why the Shizz block didn't work out last time? I requested a room in the block but didn't get it, and I wasn't the only one.

Not sure. It was our hotel coordinator's first year, so she probably just needed time to get into the groove. Things should probably be smoothed over this year.

Well, I don't really mean an area cordoned off but rather a better block of rooms than what was divvied up last year. Of course, that implies that enough people here still want to have a shizz block to begin with!

Quick note on why hotel rooms might not have all been in the same areas, we gave the hotel a huge list of rooms to group and also staff rooms/etc and they.... just... kind of ignored it at first. When we got on site it was scramble time to make sure everything was set.

So, we did our homework, and the hotel didn't get the memo for some rooms. Grouping rooms isn't something they're normally cut out to do, but for the most part we had fairly positive results. If it wasn't for our new hotel liason, Colette, it couldn't have happened at all.

colette is one of the most unsung heroes of magfest. it's one of those people who the attendees probably never see or get to talk to but she makes so many things happen behind the scenes that bring AWESOME to magfest. and she's brand new at it. imagine how she's going to steamroll things this year. :D

(so if you see her, tell her how awesome she is)

Even though I might request a room outside the Shizz Block (for the sake of noise-factor...I mean, seriously, MY room I want for sleeping, the Suite is for partying), I will be more than happy to chip in a few bucks for the Shizz Suite itself, so no one person is shouldering the full costs.

So whoever takes over handling Shizz Suite reservations this year, set up a PayPal or something and I'll donate what I can.

The Shizz block didn't make much sense to me. It seemed like there was an area designated as the Shizz block, Shizz bookings were randomly scattered throughout, and then whatever rooms weren't booked by Shizzies were filled with unrelated people, all peppered throughout. Wouldn't it make more sense to have the Shizz block radiate out from the suite? If there are some more expensive rooms mixed in there, I understand if those have to be filled with non-Shizzies, but beyond that, it should be a solid Wall O' Shizz. As it was, it was more like Shizz Rampart, with random people plugging the gaps (Pluggers, if you will).
