SPEEDWOLF:
Motörhead are a close reference here, both for the raspy vocals and street punk riffage, but Speedwolf occasionally throw in some NWOBHM-style melodic leads. Mostly it's an all out assault on Motörhead and the UK punk bands they influence for a band from Colorado, they definitely have the throwback British shit down, let's just put it that way. Speedwolf are among those 80's-worshiping bands that could be said to represent the midnight movie analogue to heavy metal: cheese to the fore, shirt tails in the wind, old school in the sense that all legit musical innovations that later bands found worthy of emulating have been stripped away and what you have left is the unapologetic heart of metal, a teenage hedonistic wasteland of thwarted libido and overcompensating machismo… all in the name of freedom and off-the-cuff self-expression. Not that anyone in a position to offer anything authentic in this vein is capable of the kind of introspection that would characterize it this way.
WITCHAVEN:
Black/Thrash at its most primal. Witchaven is the kind of band that wakes up every morning and eats freshly ground uncooked lamb for breakfast. With the blood still dripping from their jaws they exit their doom fortress and start axe murdering the local wildlife, and soon after that they jump on their V666 Murdercycles and ride a badass wheelie all the way to the Vatican where they sacrifice one priest every day in the brazen bull. Their days climax with a blasphemous orgy complete with mutilation and vorarephilia to the soundtrack of Bestial Mockery. What I'm trying to say is that they are bloody raw and carry themselves on pure, undiluted attitude.
TOAD:
An American rock & roll band from the 1970's trapped inside a Scandinavian metal band from the 1990's. These AZ juggernauts balance deftly between Celtic Frost and cock rock, keeping both true die hard metal fans attentive and hipster chicks in American Apparel Micro-Minis shaking their asses.
KUATO & QUIAD:
Could be a sludge doom noise dubstep battle to the death...who knows I drink when I say yes to support bands.
You know the drill ICYC is all ages and you can BYOB. The doors will really be at 8pm and I really will run this on some form of schedule so please refrain from being on PHX time and showing up whenever because you will probably miss some bands.
