You know, someone should cover the base music, make a 10 minute rendition. I'll love you for it.

Which track is that on the NSF? It's been a while since I've played Golgo 13: TSE, but I'm certainly up for the challenge!

I had planned on doing an ambient album full of Golgo 13: TSE covers, so this would be a pleasure to attempt. B)

At least Crimmy made one, but I don't have it any more and the link is dead: http://theshizz.org/...801#entry215801

Haha that version was terrible. Didn't Kirby do a quick and dirty cover? Golgo 13 still needs a good cover tho, much like Rambo.

JV I believe Sherv means this song:

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

Yup, that's the track! Damn, so spooky...

The NSF I have is missing two songs...the one that plays on the last area where you have to deal with missiles, hovercraft dudes, and lasers (it has a chugging percussive sound) and then the dialogue music that plays when you confront SMIRK...the latter is mostly just sound effects but it's damn awesome.

I watched a few episodes of the new G13 anime last night, it's not bad at all. Sure, no smoking but the misogyny is there as the women are pretty blatantly objectified and one episode has a terribly weak female lead. The few manga I've read always had Duke taking out "bad" guys (mafia, nazis, etc) but there are a few questionable hits so far which really solidify him as a hitman who'll take a job that pays well. I always wondered if he had any kind of ethics pertaining to his jobs.

And hey, don't forget our brilliant Rambo medley...actually, maybe it's better that you do :P

JV I believe Sherv means this song:

Ah yes, a classic. I could probably get a 10-minute piece out of that, but I'd need to fuddle around with textures and dynamics.

Let me see what I can do... :)

I can't do a good review of The Mafat Conspiracy / Riddle of Icarus as the first and last time I ever played it was back in 98 when I could emulate it. I remember hating the maze controls because it was so laggy and the very linear nature of the game made me miss all of the backtracking and, believe it or not, immersion of the first game. The plot was kinda goofy but so was TSE...although TSE's presentation really had an effect on me as a kid and that certainly biases me to this day. They also butchered the theme :(

Anyone have any thoughts on Mafat?

I love Mafat about a million times more than TSE, although TSE's plot was admittedly much cooler with the main enemy being Hitler's brain in a jar.

It just plays so much smoother and is a lot less cheap. The base sections in TSE in particular are just AWFUL in terms of programming. Not impossible or anything, but way more annoying than they should be.

Overall, Mafat just feels a lot more complete and tight than TSE to me. TSE was a game I wanted to love so much but couldn't fully give my heart to because of its sloppy programming and oftentimes baffling design choices. I didn't actually play Mafat until pretty recently, despite having owned the cart for quite some time. I ended up being blown away by the quality of Mafat in direct comparison, and it definitely rocketed up on my list of great (but relatively unknown) NES titles- right alongside Cowboy Kid, Samurai Pizza Cats, Holy Diver and SD Hero Soukessen.

Haha, I'd like to see that for Mafat. TSE's action was klunky and downright weird, but the few times I tried to play Mafat, the controls just felt stiff. I think I also remember it being unreasonably hard, but that was a good decade ago that I gave it a shot. I'll have to give it another go.

This is crazy. I never played that game as a kid, but I wrote a song that had the exact same chord progression and almost the same picking (it's actually pretty simple though).

I think I might own it now, but I'm not sure.
