Hello friends,

It is my intention to try to set up a formal Shizz meet and greet at Magfest this year. Every year it seems that people comment that they don't see half the people they want to, or that there is never an official meeting of the board to meet everyone. Welp, let's make it happen.

But for this to happen, I probably need a better plan than "ask Magfest staff for a room and we'll all go there and stare at each other." So, I am open to suggestions on both scope and what exactly we should do (and what day to do it, I suppose).

Some ideas I've been tossing around:

- A sound system to play a curated set of Shizz member's music and Shizz favorite music and/or a DJ
- A projector to show Great Moments on Shizz History from past Magfests
- Have people bring food, or order some pizzas
- Shizz Awards
- Purple party shirts or formal attire urged
- Shizz Secret Santa Present Exchange
- Official Shizz Family Photo time - with the Gaylord being as big as it is, this is the best chance to do this and not being missing half of the board

Whether this would need a panel room or just any room and if it should be on Friday or Saturday is really up to you guys. Also if it should be an open or closed event to the general Magfest public. I think we should try to shoot for about a 1 hour block in the middle of the day or afternoon, before concerts start, so there isn't any conflicts. Also drinking can't happen if Magfest is involved with it, but we can always schedule an unofficial afterparty at the bar or the suite if people would like that.

Anyway, let me know if you guys have any ideas or opinions on this. There's no guarantee we can definitely do any of this, but the more definite the game plan we have, the better chance it has of happening. And I'm not a great planner, so help me help you to help us!

a panel room with a set time gives a guaranteed time and place. drawbacks to that would be drinking inability and the fact that i don't think you can have a private panel.

setting a specific time and place outside of that realm seems to have backfired several times. it was easiest when they were immediately after the concerts but that doesn't always gel well with shizz folks now since not as many go to all the shows.

yeah, i feel like anything outside of the gaylord immediately dooms the event (also makes it more expensive). I know the Gaylord had like a private reception last year where they cut off the one area near the elevators, but who knows how much that cost or even if it is feasible. it almost has to be a panel room, i think.

Yeah, while we can't have a private panel it would be pretty neat to have it be open to the public in case people have heard of theshizz but haven't joined the forum...throw on a nametag and get started!

It may make sense to have this as early as possible (taking into account when people arrive at Mag) as that will give people more time to mingle thereafter, especially anyone who hasn;t been to mag or a shizz event before, it's like a giantass ice breaker

In terms of getting a private panel room, I doubt that this is going to work. Because if The Shizz gets to do it, why doesn't OCR get to? Or some other group? "We're just different" and "We thought of it first" are entirely true, but unlikely to stem the tide of complaints from non-Shizz groups who get word about this. I still think that getting an empty panel room would be great, but we need to be thinking of other ideas.

well it probably won't be private, but Nick was pretty supportive of us getting this together when I talked to him about this before, so I think it has a good chance of working (and like cetera said, if magfest can't accomodate us, we will make a guerilla get together no matter what, it would just be nice to have an official time and date going into the weekend)

You have to be careful if you set it early Friday because some folks might show up late Friday night.

I'm gonna be everywhere at the same time so it'd be impossible for me to miss this event.
