And Now A Little Bit O'Nonsense From The Shizz

Apr,29,2002
Good weekend, Friday at the modified was a cool show, the winners played, along with san diego bands Waterline Drift and Goodbye Blue Monday. Totally cool show, Waterline Drift was amazing with their jazz beats and odd timing not too far off from Chandler based Vin-Fiz. Saturday night was a going away party for our lovely green peace friend Megan who will coincidentally will be moving to San Diego. Their was a guy who spat fire and a girl who mesmerized everyone with her fire handling talents will Jimmy Vanity kept the beat for them. After that the Vanity Set played an awesome set while the minibosses screamed obscenities at them. The lovely Lonna played a great set and explained what yellow jack was, thank you lonna. Later on the swimming pool that was in the middle of the wherehouse was an awesome place for people to get pushed into which two people were thrown in. Me being one of them, it was terrible I had to let my wallet dry out and I walked home barefoot the next morning. Mike Montoya was the cause of this so I had to do my part and throw him in too Muahahahaha. I met Mike Juliano the guitarist from Death of Marat, I have seen these guys before at the Hollywood Alley and thought they were awesome but never got a chance to meet them untill this weekend. I got their website and now have a link up to them on the shizz so check em out at http:///www.deathofmarat.com

Tuesday night was the Newtimes Showcase awards ceremony. I have come to the realization (I have always known this, but am now learning to accept it) that this is all just a popularity contest. The showcase has nothing to do with how good a band is, but how they appeal to the masses. The bands that won, all deserved to win because they were the most popular, not because they were more talented or had better music but because they appealed to the general public.
I am realizing (that I am ranting and) that there are two types of music. Music for the masses which is generally very structured, predictable and for the most part generic, and music for the lovers of music, you don't have to be a musician to enjoy this but at least have an understanding of the amount of work and dedication that goes into it. How many people do you know like Miles Davis? Not very many probably and he was amazing. But anyonee with a love for music, even if they don't like Miles, respect him and know that he did some very amazing stuff and pushed himself to explore music and to create some freaky stuff, to fully enjoy Miles you have to sit down and really listen to what he did. Then if you take Kenny G, everyone will agree that he is a good musician, but his music is focused for the masses, very generic and easy to listen too. Anyone could put his music on and you get just as much out of it studying it note for note as you would hearing it in an elevator in the background of some old people complaining about the weather.
WHEW! okay, enough ranting, I know I have misspellings and other mistakes but I am not going to proofread that again, or I will just get riled and spew forth again.
It was free beer at the alley during the awards ceremony and I took full advantage of it. That made the ceremony worth every minute of it.

I am listening to the Mates of State and these guys are so awesome, they sound so full for only being two people. Definetely check them out.
Anybody see the newtimes this week fatigo is mentioned a couple of times, once for the newtimes showcase and once in an article called open war, a must read for anyone who has been to the open mic nights at the Hollywood Alley or the Emerald Lounge.
Some announcements are to be made, one is Fatigo is looking for a new bass player, looks like there current bass player has been whoring around with other bands and doesn't have time to focus on Fatigo, hopefully we will see Mike and Donald team up again in a Travolta Tribute band sometime.
I knew there was something else I was gonna say but I forgot what it was, maybe I will remember and tell you all about later.

After Any Accident has been nominated twice for the Arizona Infusion of Music (AIM) Award for best newcomer and most cutting edge. I can't tell you who to vote for, but I can definitely tell you that I voted for them. There is some other categories that you might want to check out and vote for. Again I am not telling you who to vote for but I also voted for Kimber for the "Red Mountain Achievement Award" I think she has done alot for the community and stinkweeds is definitely the best place to go for good music and stuff like that, and junk. Those are just my thoughts on the whole thing, I don't believe in pushing my ideas on anyone so vote the way you want (I am sure you would anyway, I don't have that much influence on people).
I started this journal more to talk about the website and have gotten a bit sidetracked I would say involving myself in other stuff, so I just wanted to point out that The Vanity Set site has been updated, they have new pics and Trixie has her own little journal thingy as well to keep you posted on what's going on the world of vanity!
Have I blabbed enough or do you need more?
I can't hear you............
What, you want more?
Okay, now then..................
Last night at the Rhythym Room, Optomist presented a great evening of acoustic artists such as Jack Straw, Untill August, and my personal favorite The SweetBleeders. They played a short set but those are usually the best because it leaves you wanting more. I really am blabbing a lot this morning, so I am outta here!

I am finally back, I have been in a slump the last couple of weeks, and have been slacking on the website as well as on everyday things, those who know me know what I am talking about and those who don't can just guess :)
I have done some updates and will be updating the site as I have time, but you should seesome minor changes already. After seeing Requiem for a Dream I have realized what a great life I have as long as I don't keep using the same arm, or have any aspirations of being on Television. I just want to be a winner. If you haven't seen the movie, please see while you are in a very good mood.
The Newtimes Showcase was really cool, saw lot's of cool bands, I can't say I saw a band I didn't like for the most part. The Chicano Power Revival was so freakin awesome, Fatigo was good but there bass player was drunk. I had never seen The Slow Down Before and they were really good. Hammertoes were great too, that was the first time I had ever seen them without a singer and I was thoroughly impressed.

I need a vacation, Vegas sounds cool, it's finally friday. Am I rambling? I have been lazy with the site, I need to get my act together, gotta lot to do. If anyone reads this which I know at least two people do, feel free to email me about any things coming up or cool bands coming through, and stuff like that. Whew AAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!
Sorry, I am just in a bizarre mood this morning, so I should get back on track here soon.
Have a good weekend, look at the calendar for stuff that's going on and remember to look both ways before crossing the street.

Apr,11,2002
I am currently listening to the South Park Chef Aid CD, Who would have ever thought you could get a song with Ozzy, DMX, Crystal Method, and ODB. Very cool. Anyways, this weekend is pretty exciting, the New Times is Showcasing 40 bands from the local area and it should be pretty cool. A couple of bands on the shizz will actually be there performing for my pleasure. Employee of the moth and Fatigo. There along with them will be 38 others and all of this for only 7 bucks. (I feel like a freaking advert, so I will stop here).
Just another day and hopefully I will survive untill the weekend. I had a few tooo many Guinness last night but don't worry I am doing okay now :)

Summer is finally here and is getting to be nice and toasty during the day, I was sick most of last week and can still feel it a little bit now, but I am much better than before. I missed out on some cool shows AGAIN, I was also out of town and missed peoples birthdays and other good shizz like that.
Happy Birthday goes to Michael Montoya from Fatigo, born april 6th 1975, 8 pounds 8 ounces. I met this guy the first day of college in Jazz band and we have been friends ever since, I usually forget his birthday, this year I didn't forget, I just didn't get him anything except maybe a cold. MUAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA
John and Christine from AAA had a special little gathering sunday at Marty's house to celebrate their engagement and future wedding later next month. I hope the best for both of them and may they always be as enthusiastic about their love as they are about their music. They also played a great show friday at the lucky dragon, (I did check this show out by the way) John broke his first string with After Any Accident but they still sounded awesome, The Vanity Set played as well as SignSedSo and The Real Big Diffs. Great show, you guys missed it but I didn't HA!
Okay I better go before the sudafed kicks in and I get really weird.

Apr,4,2002
Last night there were some cool shows going on, too bad I had too miss them. HotFoughtCold played at Nita's Hideaway last night and I am sure that was an awesome show, I saw them play at modified and these guys really know hot to rock the casbah! Lulu in Hollywood played last night as well over the Lucky Dragon, I wanted to checkout the shows but I am either sick, or my allergies are acting up. I have not felt this bad in awhile. I got sick over the winter and Jason the trumpet player from Fatigo gave me some pills to take. I didn't know you could feel like that on over the counter drugs, so I took some more last night and felt very very good but very very sleepy too.
Incestival is less than a month away, if you don't know what it is checkout this graphic and you will see how a few bands here in the valley are connected. It's pretty sweet if you ask me, and all of these interconnected bands are going to be playing two nights in a row at the Hollywood Alley. May 2nd and May 3rd are the dates to remember. It is a thursday and a friday night of rocking and mayhem. Please come out support these bands and have fun doing it!

Apr,1,2002
Today is April Fools day and I thought I was going to do this big huge joke to play on everyone but with the lack of time that I have to do anything I was unable to. Maybe next year, who knows.
This weekend was packed with cool stuff, I must say one of the coolest things I saw was U Knighted Nations which played there very first show at the Modified on Saturday. Superb indeed. Later that night After Any Accident played at a house party on Farmer in Tempe, along with the Del Toros from Portland, and The Vinegar Sting. Music was cool, the beer was, well it was beer and if you drank enough of, it really doesn't matter I guess. Lots of frat guys which were annoying but overall alot of fun.
Sad News over this weekend though, The highly acclaimed gamer band The Minibosses called it quits. I couldn't believe it but they are playing the rest of there scheduled shows and throwing in the towel. This is pretty sad because I loved these guys, but I guess they each have outside projects that they are going to pursue. I wish the best and I will definitely be checking out the last of their shows.

Mar,29,2002
Today is insane amount of cool shows going on, Death of Marat and The Minibosses are playing tonight at Nita's hideaway which should be an awesome show, it's Death or Marat's cd release party and this should be loads O fun. Next Sweet bleeders and Less Pain are playing tonight at Hollywood Alley which should be another great show, Lulu in Hollywood is playing at the goldbar, their mellow sounds will soothe you as you drink all that caffeine. AND LAST BUT NOT LEAST.... Tonight at the paperheart gallery in phoenix is The Vanity Set, After Any Accident, Liberty School (from tucson) and Fatigo (which is going to be in the new times showcase). This should also be an awesome show, I of course will be there, it's free and I can bring my own booze so why wouldn't I be there!
I have updated the calendar some, it might look like it is missing some things, and that is because it is, this is a temporary condition and hopefully in the long run is a better implementation of the calendar, I have also been asked to setup a message board type thingy and journaling for the bands that are on the shizz. If anybody reads this thing, then please give me some input on this matter and tell me what you think, all input is greatly appreciated but not always accepted. I can't do this all by myself!!

Woooooooooooooooooo
Okay, off the record I have been talking to a record label that is interested in signing up bands that are on the shizz and recording, they said that they heard or know of most of the bands on the site and they are all bands that they would want to record and help promote. There is much stuff that needs to be confirmed but this looks good and seems like something where everone involved will benefit. I am very excited about this.
This weekend was alot of fun, The Paperheart Gallery was happening on Saturday where Braeburn played there very first show and they were so good, it did not look like a first show for them at all, and everything was perfect. Lonna stepped up to the plate next and did a wonderful set as usual, The Winners played with their new bass player Marty Miller. Great Job Marty!
The Main Event, was ....and guppies eat their young! These guys look so intimidating on stage but after the show, Brock and Lindsay were so nice and really cool. There set was amazing and I am glad I finally got a chance to met them. I had such a great time at the show. This friday there will be another show at The Paperheart Gallery again. Should be awesome, but I guess we will see.....

Mar,21,2002
Monday was cool, fatigo played with some cool bands at the modified, the mendoza line and knife in water. This is going to sound really bad but, knife in water was so good I fell nodded off a couple of times because the pedal steel guitar was so lulling. Knife in water is from Austin and really nice they kicked off there tour here in phoenix and I wish them the best on their tour.
Mollusk records called me up and wants to do some stuff with the bands on this site. I haven't officially talked to them yet but we are supposed get together soon and discuss some cool things for the future of the shizz.
This weekend ....and Guppies Eat Their Young, The Winners, Lonna, and Braeburn will be gracing the stage at The Paper Heart Gallery if you can't make it to the show on saturday check the show out on the Paper Hearts webcam. Should be loads O' fun and it starts around 8 O'clock.

Mar,16,2002
I got to see Lulu In Hollywood play at Nita's Hideaway wednesday, which was very awesome along with a band called iffy from Minneapolis and that wondeful band The Vanity Set headlined.
Friday was really cool, the Minibosses played at the Hollywood alley and it was the most packed I have seen there in a long time. I had a great time and the minibosses rocked, a band from Lake Havasu called Soul Clown played and Fred Green with their wondeful funky beats closed the house. It is weird because you can tell all the hot chicks were there for fred green and all the nerdy looking dudes were there for the minibosses. It was definitely a great mixture of people.

Mar,12,2002
Last night was such an awesome show at the modified, I had so much fun. We saw Lonna play, she played some new stuff and ended with a duet with another singer Mike Little. Very good, but the highlight of the evening was watching Kaito play, these guys were so awesome, they are a south by southwest band from england and they were the nicest people, I couldn't stop watching these guys. I had to buy there cd and I am listening to it as I write this with a big smile on my face, and tired as hell tooo.
Some bad news that must be relayed to those who don't know, Vin-Fiz one of the valleys very own broke up this week. It's very disturbing sometimes to hear that a really awesome band is breaking up, this doesn't mean we won't see any of them still though, Marty is currently also in The Winners, John is in Fatigo and Briefcase, and Fred is in Trois Pistoles as well as the french hardcore band You Knighted Nations. Good luck to all of those guys in there future endeavors. This is an end of an era that I will surely miss.

Mar,11,2002
I had another fun filled weekend, I saw After any Accident and Trois Pistoles at the Lucky Dragon, those guys just freakin Rock. Christine is doing backup vocals and I think sounds great. Saturday Lulu In Hollywood was on the radio so I went over the singers house to listen. We all got to listen to them play a couple of tracks from the cd and my favorite song of theirs "left unsaid" was played. I had to work saturday night so I didn't do a whole lot. We are getting ready to setup a show at the Alley and will have more info soon. It will be two nights of fun with all of the bands that have members in other bands that kind of connect us all in some way. Thursday May 2nd will be the first night with bands like, Braeburn, The Winners, Fatigo, Briefcase, and maybe more. Friday May 3rd will be a wonderful evening with bands like The Vanity Set, Trois Pistoles, After Any Accident, The Minibosses, and Vin-Fiz. There might even be some t-shirts. More details to come...........

Whew, it has been a busy week, lot's of cool stuff, I had never realized what a cool freakin art scene there is in Phoenix. I was thoroughly impressed. Friday I checked out Casey Mckee's studio who had some very cool artwork up, totally cool stuff that he had done and there was live music and goodness all around. Saturday at Holga's was great some amazing artists, some I thought was overpriced, but there was other stuff there that I thought was completely underpriced. I guess it all just depends on the artist. It was lot's of fun and there were even some belly dancers that were very amazing in there own belly dancing ways. Saturday was great, the arizona center has many art galleries in it plus live music and poetry reading. I was pretty much focused on the music aspect of the art scene here in the valley, but I realized how awesome the art galleries and poetry readings are here too, it totally changed my perspective on things. Now, don't get me wrong, just like the music scene there is stuff out there that just completely sucks, but overall it was very very cool. I might have a section on the site just for the art galleries and certain artists as well as poets in the area, if you think this is cool definitely email me about so I will get my butt in gear. Thanks!

Feb,26,2002
Wow, okay, I am bored so I am writing again, which is a rarity because I am usually practicing or playing a show. God Bless Boredom :)
I am currently working on the calendar setup, because the way it currently is, there are alot of bands playing and it seems like not enough room. I love it, I am so glad people have been asking to put shows on there and I have also been asking bands to put there shows up. Now nobody can say there isn't anything to do around here. This weekend is the Art Detour, I wish I knew more about it other than The Minibosses, Lonna, and Fatigo are playing for it, you can get more info from Holga's Studio. Definitely check this bad boy out.

Feb,25,2002
Allrighty then, I don't think anyone reads this so I am just gonna ramble. I have put a two new bands, HotfoughtCold and Lulu In Hollywood I have not seen Hotfoughtcold yet, but am very interested especially if they are checking out After any Accident, who freakin rock. I have seen Lulu in Hollywood in action and I just can't stop talking about them, I listened to there cd all weekend and don't want to do anything else, Lena has such a beautiful voice and the rest of the band does a great job . People have told me they sound like portishead. Hopefully that gives people a clue as to what they sound like

Feb,21,2002
Wow, it's been crazy mad around here, tons of stuff going on, The shaving party is playing this friday at the Lucky Dragon, next door, Lulu in Hollywood is playing at Goldbar, Fatigo is playing saturday and The Vanity Set just played at The modified last night. Met a cool band called English Accent, really really cool you should check them out I have there link on the home page. I have so much that needs to get done on this site and I feel like nothing is getting done about it, that's where apathy is a wonderful tool. I am learning more and more how much I don't know and I hate it. But oh well such is life I guess.

Feb,12,2002
Well here we are, I just finished the calender which I am going to be putting up soon, then you can see everyone and when they are playing. I will be updating this from time to time and hopefully on a regular basis. Basically I want this to be a collaborative thing with the local scene so we will see how this goes. Basically I am a musician who wants to try to promote the scene and all the great people in it. So I hope this helps, becuase of this I need your help. If there are things that I am lacking (which right now is alot) please let me know, also I do not consider myself to be a web developer. I am someone who messes around on the interenet and wants to help put me and everyone else up here. So don't expect Fancy Shmancy stuff, it will just be informative and helpful for those interested in these bands and the scene in general.
Thank ya
