No. Even when I do bother to replace it, I forget to back up my saves before it dies again.

yeah, eventually I need one of those all-in-one carts that have save space, but I don't even have any games that are worth saving right now. The only game I like that I own is Enemy Zero, but I need to get the discs buffed out before I can play it again.

I need a good solution for component switching because I can't find anything with more than 4 inputs and I have 8 needed.  Right now I'm daisy chaining which is not optimal.  Pelican used to have a killer 8 port switch but I can't find it secondhand anywhere.  The only thing I'm seeing is this which is way too expensive:  http://www.gretrostu.../store/gcompsw/

I'd rather daisy chain, or maybe even buy two crappy old used switchers and wire them together myself, if the alternative is spending that much. Right now I daisy chain but I'm starting to feel much better only having one or two systems out and hooked up at once, it helps me focus in on whatever game I am playing and it looks nicer and makes me feel a little more calm.

That's a steal compared to this monster:

Daisy chaining shouldn't affect the video quality, but I understand that it's annoying. I couldn't find anything with a quick search less than that $200 you already called out.

EDIT: There is 1 Pelican on eBay for $146 shipped which isn't cheap either:

One sold back in September for closer to $100. Maybe put a saved search on that and wait?

Thanks, Moonie! I put in an offer and it was accepted plus I had a $10 coupon. Great success!

I was digging around a box in the garage the other day and I found a VERY rudimentary S-Video AV switch box that I used to use a few years ago. Gonna make good use of this once I have a place to  permanently keep my CRT/gaming stuff.

It's definitely a frivolous purchase but man, it's going to be so killer to have all my consoles neatly hooked up on one switch and labeled. :)

I feel like this may be our last chance to finally get in on building racks of AV gear from back in the early 90s before the youtube crowd gets savvy and starts driving up the prices. I mean I have racks of audio gear but I've been looking for a decent rack mount CD player and also a VCR so maybe I'll just start a super nerd rack circa 1991.

This thing is fucking awesome.  Thanks again, Moonie!  I have everything hooked up with component except for my Dreamcast.  I'm anxiously waiting for HD RetroVision to release cables for it.

Kind of tempted on that pelican mondo-selector, but I've got enough stuff to Frankenstein it all together. And there's an odd sort of satisfaction in doing that.

We just bought our own house, and I get part of the garage for my game room. Should have pics in couple months.

Well, a "couple months" turned into half a year, but I've finally got my gaming systems set up and mostly organized in our new house. Pics! It did happen! This is probably the best setup I've ever had, so I'm looking forward to lock-down ending, and having people over to play games.
