i didn't get to see either of'em. when i left home this morning we had just gone down 2-0. i heard the first one over the radio on my way to work. then someone who was monitoring the game at their desk announced we'd just tied it. i'll have to catch the highlights when i get home.

I was going to work from home today to watch the game but had some crap I had to deal with. I only got to see the 2nd Slovenia goal and 1st US goal. The 2nd Slovenia goal was infuriating. The defense was soooo far off the dude. If they'd play a decent 1st half the US would have won.

I don't know about a bad call since I hardly got to watch it.

Oh, this sounds like some bullshit

JOHANNESBURG -- Maurice Edu kicked the ball into the net just before the 86th minute. American players jumped around wildly, thinking they had capped a historic comeback, turning a two-goal, first-half deficit into a 3-2 victory over Slovenia.

"Then I heard the whistle," Edu said.

Referee Koman Coulibaly of Mali had called it off.

Over and over, American players asked, "Why?"

In English. Then in French.

"He just ignored us," Landon Donovan said. "Or he didn't understand."

Perhaps Coulibaly will never explain himself. Perhaps it will remain one of those unsolved soccer mysteries.

I just light my neighbors house on fire over this.

my neighbor is from South African. I am positive he had something to do with this. And apartheid.

I brought apartheid up in a joke once, i was received with silence.

nobody was offsides

no US players committed any fouls

as a matter of fact, if you watch the replay, one of our player was in a fucking HEADLOCK! the other was being manhandled while Edu shot.

what

the

fuck.

was the ref thinking?

also, yay for england drawing, more chance for us in the good US of A.

Lol I never post in the general forums but the World Cup thread in the Minibosses forum is rather weaksauce.

So France blows immensly hard this time around. Pathetic. I'm 1/4 France and I dig the country and all, but man what a weak team they had this time around.

Germany's going pretty strong, but I kinda liked losing to Serbia. Makes things more interesting. If I said something like that in public right after the game was lost (or even now, maybe), I'd totally get a beating though.

Really proud for them Switzerlanderz. Tight defense!

Wishing good luck to you USA peoples. Really need to watch that game (or the highlights) against Slovenia. Sounds intense and full of bullshit.
Hope you guys stick around! Loved the interviews after the game against England hahah. Too bad the translator made the original Answers a bit hard to understand, but I dug the "dont let their strong players do their thing at any cost" strategy. Worked out well, it seems!

Also really surprised by South Korea. Dudes are FAST!

Spain and Brazil are really strong this time, but Brazil isn't playing very Brazil-like and Spain needs to tighten their defenses and actually DO something with their goal opportunities.

All the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

i was hearing on the radio this morning that the penalty on the u.s. was a make-up call for him having blown the one that made the goal possible in the first place. who knows for sure but it still stinks either way.

i also heard that the player on the french team that's gone was offered the chance to stay on the team if he apologized to whoever it was he offended (don't knwo the whole story there) but he said "nope" and was kicked off. ha ha.. at least he stuck to whatever it was he felt so strongly about.

god wasn't picking up and so cristiano ronaldo assfucked them.

the team is a mess. annelka is the worthless striker that was being demoted. he wasn't doing shit and was a questionable, peculiar starting roster spot to begin with. most french supporters wanted dominich's head for having theirry henry on the bench. not that it would have likely mattered THAT much (the team chemistry was garbage even throughout qualifiers... hell, we know how they got in, right?) but i guess some players liked annelka and had his back. so they decided to quit on their coach and practice. viva la revolucion! frenchmen; strange yet noble. and strange.

yeah they're still going to play south africa with a very outside and unrealistic chance that they can qualify (they have a worthless -2 goal differential so even if they were to beat south africa and, say, mexico loses to uruguay, they'd have to gain 5 goals differential to win the tiebreaker). the thought that france might literally not show up for the game seems a bit overstated but we'll see. i just don't think they'd want to disgrace their nation like that. call the french whatever you want but they certainly love their nation and they kinda used to be pretty cutting edge with this revolution, mutiny, rebellion stuff, ya know. anyway, i'd be very shocked if they didn't show up on the field against south africa.

and they better bring their A game. this is south africa's last game of the tournament, for sure. rumor has it that nelson mandela might surface tomorrow. that would be mammoth. the south africans will play as spirited as they were in the first game with mexico when they looked strong against a much higher ranked side. i'm not so sure france wins unless somehow out of all this drama, they emerge glorious and galvanized. it'll likely still be their end but it would be one hell of a silver lining.

i completely agree. the euro sides are looking disjointed this year and france has it worse than anyone.

there's this theory as to why the central and south american clubs are doing really well and europe is struggling. it's all really a matter of chemistry and focus. the south americans tend to have more nationalist focus than the europeans due to the clusterfuck that is the pro league landscape in europe. you've got so many "big leagues" whether its the premiership, serie A or the bundesliga in such a constricted continent that players are shuffled around the same way they're shuffled around here in the states in any of our major leagues. these are superstars that are progressively losing their national loyalties and are instead soccer mercenaries. there's another very unique system in place in euro leagues: loan. you can loan a player out to another club midseason (usually in another league). after the loan is over, the player returns to his club. loyalty to club? loyalty to profession? no wonder loyalty to nation is lost somewhere in there...

in south america, however, most players are unable to leave their nation to play ball in europe unless they're outright godly (your messi's and kaka's) so they end up playing in their own leagues. even those who play in europe have a stronger sense of nationalistic pride. europe has, over the past decade or so, effectively stressed a union of sorts that has blurred some lines (at least psychologically) that once existed before... lines between france and england, spain and portugal, that used to actually get teams really pumped up to play with pride and their best. but these are now full of filthy rich superstars that would rather ensure they're able to continue earning paychecks for man u than in group stage.

what you get is france and england, all star teams chock full of badasses playing well short of badass. italy is waiting to play an important game (wtf?).

maybe the euro sides that are left in contention (i'm talking to you, italia and england) decide they have important games to play and show up big.

France has amazing players, individually, Franck Ribery, Anelka, Patrice Evra? amazing players, but when they play for France, they just forget how to play. lol.

same with England, all these amazing players, i guess they get paid too much to not give a shit.

i was impressed by north korea until they got DESTROYED by Portugal, 7-0
