I'm just being honest. I'm still gonna listen to all the entries, and I'll try to write some reviews today or tomorrow since I'll most likely have to miss the listening party.

Gonna write some reviews:

Adventures of Batman and Robin - Chief of Considerable Size:
Nice bass. NIce fuzzy guitar tones, I'd prefer less fuzz and more growl but whatev. HvyRiffz, nice synth too. Kick drum is dope, very heavy mix, nice. Arrangement is leaving me a little bored tho, it's just overdramatic metal stuff that needs some character added to it, not crazy about the guitar solo either.

2/6

ATP Tour Championship Tennis - Seriously considered ATP Tour Championship Tennis because I didn't know what to for 1994 month thank you MegaMatt:

Dig your title +1 point. Nice cheap synth in the background. Guitar playing is cute.  Holy shit is that 90210? +2 points. Between the title and the 90210 I'm on this ride with u.

4/6

Contra: Hard Corps, Psycho Pinball - Balls of Steel:
Fuckin relax a bit on that guitar editing. Should have spent less time using the cut/paste/timestretch tools in Reaper and learned the correct notes instead.

1.5/6

Contra: Hard Corps - Browny's Party Favorites Vol.1:

Decent guitar playing and production, but your arrangements are more just like songs stuck together, work on your transitions. Dig that lofi section but the transition to it is way abrupt, classic Ailsean shit right there.

3/6

Demon's Crest - Morning Star:
Fukken Demon's Crest! I've wanted to do this soundtrack for years but never had the balls. I really love this arrangement, and that's a great solo. The mix sounds good when turned up, which I appreciate having to do. This track just sounds like a throwback to me, the guitar playing is confident. Classic DoD sound all over this shit.

4/6

Donkey Kong Country - DK Island Swing Remix:
Those monkey sounds with the reverb are fucking nice B). Haha the swing of this is dope, that fucking groove that comes in around 1:20 is NICE! Great guitar solo too, tons of attitude and I love the tone.

3/6

Donkey Kong Country - Kristmas with the Kongs:

Nice intro, but I don't like the character of that reverb. Oh no, acoustic bass and the way that bell melody +  reverb makes it sound like a cell phone game soundtrack! Either that or some "Whose Line Is It Anyway!" trivia game for Wii. :( Oh god cmon the tubular bells are just too much! This is definitely lifted from a western published Wiio trivia game, veto!

N/A

Dragon Knight 4 - Lushifon's Lips:
Nice game choice! <3 Very classic DoD sound here, super raw ROCK mix. Bus compression is a bit much tho, makes the mix needlessly pumpy and the hihat a little obnoxious. The lead synth comes in mega loud, but I like the guitar accompaniment under it, that guitar solo is actually super cool. Bass is boring tho you could have done some very easy and subtle things to it to make it pop out a little and give the song a very noticeable jump in musicianship. I dig the energy in this overall.

2.5/6

Dynamite Headdy - Boom Goes the Dynamite:

YES someone had the balls to do Dynamite Headdy! I hope this doesn't suck! Guitar tone kinda sucks! Drum mix kinda sucks too! But it sounds super cute regardless! And the notes are right too! This song is super hard to play so I appreciate the effort, nice job! But the best part of the song is the drum fill before the loop and you left that out so go fuck yourself.

2/6

Earthbound - A Journey to Sadett (Onett in a Minor Key)

Yo nice soundscape. This is actually mega chill, I like it a lot. Guitar playing is good, bass arrangement is really good, drums sound nice, uptempo section comes in when needed, nice job bro I really like this one.

3/6

Earthbound - Smiles and Tears:
This buildup is cute, but it could be a little less washed in reverbs and overtones, gets a bit tiring to my ears, but once the track gets going it's nice.

2/6

Earthbound - The Dramatic Tale of a Cosmic Sunflower

Nope.

NA

Earthworm Jim - «Hellish New Junk Reggae For a Bad Guy:
I appreciate that Tommy Tallarico found the time to enter DoD, cuz I can't imagine anyone else giving a shit about the Earthworm Jim soundtrack. Super cute trombones.

2.5/6

Final Fantasy 6 - Flight Of The Magitek:

Super serious title, this might be dramatic. Starts with the wind sample, it's gonna be dramatic. Expesnive hard samples. Oh god super dramatic heavy guitars, comedy chugging, I imagine aerial shots of Norway. Super dramatic strings, nice reverb on the drums. Nice Toontrack. Oh god dramatic choir samples. Don't like the brass. Nice snappleman style battle theme there <3. Expensive guitar processing too. Super dramatic! fuck. Guitar solo is very Tony Dickinson. Expensively dramatic string runs, flight of the bumblebee cmon dude, points off. Comedy chuggs are back. Super deep bass! Great mix too, good job. NIce cadence into victory theme, much appresh. Victory theme is great, best part of the track, plz fadeout... YES! <3

4.5/6

Heretic - Blighted Sanctuary:
Man I'm already overdramatic'd out from the previous "OBVIOUSLY NOT TONY" entry, but this is fucking doomy as fuck and I super dig it. Nice riffs too, clean guitars add a ton of attitude and keep it varied, great harmonization at the end there, very doomy. Nice job.

2.5/6

King of Fighters '94 - Psycho Soldier:

Holy shit easy on the superior drummer fuck. Blasted my asshole open right form the getgo. Fuck I don't care for the singing in this! It's mostly in key but your vocal tone is kind of lacking. Fire Fire Psycho Soldier doesn't work without the Japanese pronunciation, you have to add that extra syllable so it doesn't sound stupid! These guitar solos are ok! Nice length! Good job doing some SNK also.

2/6

Langrisser 2 - Knight’s Errand:

Nice game choice! Langrisser has some super JROCK gruz in it. I don't like your vibrato, but guitar playing is good otherwise. Drum sequence and mix are kind of lacking but still fun. I would have preferred more guitar playing and less programmed synths. Though you do have some nice guitars in the latter half of the song, and the drums get a little more interesting too. Very nice stuff at the end too! This track gets better as it goes along,I like that! Good job!

3/6

Little Big Adventure - Escape from the Temple:
Digging this slow buildup, the mix is just the tiniest bit muddy though. Even still I like the bass tone. Way too much mid-lows in the kick drum (and mix in general). Nice piano! I like the snare, but the drum mix needs a lot of work that's in the same area as the rest of the mix, leading me to think that your listening environment is hiding these issues from you? Anyway the arrangement is very interesting and I like it a lot. I like the guitars too. Super cute flute. Nice ending.

2.5/6

One Must Fall: 2097 - One Must Funk 'til 2097:
Yikes that drumkit doesn't sound funky at all you don't need all ambiance for this mix, but that organ is dope af. So porny. Guitar playing fits well. Dirty. That synth is dirty man. Fuck. The mix is muddy tho, dirty mix. Porny organ has me. That fuckin synth just came back, fuck I love it. Great ending, so dirty.

3.5/6

Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures - Mr. Green Hill:
I don't like that violin sound. I like the brass, the mix is a bit cluttered tho. Reverb on the piano doesn't match the song too well. Guitar solo gets a little burried but it's good. Wannabe Tony brass swells. Reverb on that synth makes it sound like an ambulance down the street. Brass sounds a bit shitty halfway in. Your reverbs are all over the place in this track, it's a bit disorienting, be careful with the midrange character of your ambiances, it changes the entire feel of a sound. The arrangement is way cluttered and doesn't have anything memorable at all, it just kind of keeps going. Nice production tho.

2.5/6

Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Final Fantasy VI - Hard Days:

Kinda not feeling this one, the vocals are decent, but I don't know what it is about the vocal tone that's just a little unappealing, just a little. The arrangement is interesting tho. The drum mix is very much lacking in punch and character, and it's muddy. Not feeling this track too much but there's a lot of interesting stuff happening to make it enjoyable.

2/6

Super 3D Noah's Ark - For Sacrifice:

Whooaaa super dramatic! I love the overall vibe here, rhythm guitars have a great vibe, matched well with the drums and bass, super tight rhythm playing! I'd like the arrangement to go someplace tho, kinda boring in that regard.

2/6

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters - Part of Tmnt TF (Congratulation dedicaded to VGM MAGfest Family):

Thanks for the dedicadion. Nice cheap chords and synth combo. Oh man this belongs in 1994 with these crappy synths, nice job! That kick drum needs to shut the fuck up a bit. Cheap bell synth is a nice touch, could have added some more movement to those chords. These vocals are not working at all, the vocal tone is just not there at all, and the performance is not good, but it is in line with terrible Eurofece from 1994... not my thing.

1/6

The Incredible Crash Dummies - Incredible CTE Boys:
Jesus this shit just fucking starts. The mix needs a lot of work tho. those cymbals are annoying, and the timing of the drums is pretty bad. Tina is listening with me, she says :"This is the soundtrack to a stomach ache." Kinda sucks.

1/6

Time Trax - Multi Trax:
Whoooaa nice intro! Great FM. Guitar playing is good. That bass groove is dope. Great arpeggios too. Nice.

2/6

Reviews!

Adventures of Batman and Robin - Chief of Considerable Size

Starting things off with some MTL! Loving the rhythm guitar here. I guess the lead is following the source, but I wish there was more going on. Once the synth drops in, this sounds even better. I think I hear some slight pumping in the master track. I would’ve liked it more if this song was a bit longer with some more melodic content.

ATP Tour Championship Tennis - Seriously considered ATP Tour Championship Tennis because I didn't know what to for 1994 month thank you MegaMatt

The lead interplay here is nice. Beverly Hills theme gets you bonus points from me. This should’ve been longer, maybe by repeating the first part again but with some buttrock rhythm guitars.

Contra: Hard Corps, Psycho Pinball - Balls of Steel

More MTL! Your rhythm guitar playing is great, but the drum mixing is kinda bad, really takes away from the power of the song. That’s too bad because the arrangement and playing are great.

Contra: Hard Corps - Browny's Party Favorites Vol.1

The rhythm tone and the drums are great. Great lead playing too. I like the addition of the orchestra and the backing synths. This was a good entry overall. But I would’ve been completely content with it ending at around the 9 minute mark. This section from 9 to 12 minutes felt kinda off compared to the rest, then it picked back up at the end.

Demon's Crest - Morning Star

Great intro, I wish everything was just a bit louder, especially the kick and snare. The bass could also use a bit more “grit”. Your lead playing is excellent. I like the arrangement but some parts feel empty. The ending part is great.

Donkey Kong Country - DK Island Swing Remix

Piano and the leads seem too loud compared to the rest. The kick could use more punch. If the mixing was better on this, I wouldn’t mind if this went on for longer than 2:20.

Donkey Kong Country - Kristmas with the Kongs

Starting with the piano…. I hope this is a piano solo entry because it’s lovely… and just as I wrote that, in come the rest of the instruments. Not that I’m disappointed though, this sounds kinda dope. I would’ve been disappointed if it was metal or something. Lol, I spoke too soon, there comes the MTL. Mix needs some work, I feel the bass is too loud and boomy. Not really a fan of the drum mixing in this last section either, there’s no real energy in there.

Dragon Knight 4 - Lushifon's Lips

Something about this lead sounds a bit off. Maybe too dry? This synth at around 1 minute is too loud compared to the other leads. Playing is pretty good. I like what the rhythm guitars are doing. Ended a bit too soon.

Dynamite Headdy - Boom Goes the Dynamite

Let me guess, you’ve got 5 guitars in there? Lots of stuff going on. The playing is great. This should’ve been way longer.

Earthbound - A Journey to Sadett (Onett in a Minor Key)

I really like your drum sound. Pretty cool and minimalistic arrangement, and just the perfect length. The last section is awesome.

Earthbound - Smiles and Tears

This soundscape is excellent, reminds me of something but I can’t remember what. I feel this would’ve worked great as a vocal song, indie rock style. One problem I have with it though is that it just feels like it consists of only an intro and outro. Nice little addition near the end.

Earthbound - The Dramatic Tale of a Cosmic Sunflower

Starts of nice, good synths and drums. Piano entrance is a bit sudden, and the piano is kinda mechanical, but that’s not really noticeable once the rest of the instruments drop back in. I was expecting the sections to be repetitive but there’s some stuff added each time which makes it better. I wasn’t expecting vocals in this. Vox are not great but not bad either, kinda like a bootleg mix of Tom DeLonge and Peter Gabriel. In fact, this whole song reminds me of early Genesis. I really like this section at around the 15 minute mark. Something feels off about the drums, not sure if it’s the mixing or arrangement. Is this “Number 4” some reference I don’t understand? This section at 25 minutes feels like some sort of reference. I’m not that familiar with the source material though. This part at 28:30 sounds pretty good. As does this part from 32 to 35. The slow part after that feels like it drags a bit, but luckily things pick up again soon. Not a fan of the vocals in this section though. I like the soundscape after the 41 minute mark, but I wish this part was shorter, or at least that the lead synths drop in sooner. “That’s all I have” with 3 minutes left lol.

I was expecting this song to be a lot more boring since it’s 46 minutes in length but unless I wanna nitpick, I can’t complain about much. Bonus points for the effort.

Earthworm Jim - «Hellish New Junk Reggae For a Bad Guy»

I like your clean guitar sound, and this style overall. Maybe could’ve used some more variation in the rhythm.

Final Fantasy 6 - Flight Of The Magitek

Nice intro, love the bass and rhythm guitar sound. Not a fan of the snare sound at 3:30. I like the usage of different themes in the arrangement. Great lead playing. This never felt boring despite being over 8 minutes.

Heretic - Blighted Sanctuary

Like the atmospheric intro. Your snare sounds a bit too… smacky, overcompressed maybe. The arrangement and playing are good.

King of Fighters '94 - Psycho Soldier

Your rhythms and leads are good. Vocals are ok. I don’t like the drum sound. The bass sounds a little too boomy.

Langrisser 2 - Knight’s Errand

This sounds great, good mixing and playing. A kick with some more smack would’ve been better for my taste.

Little Big Adventure - Escape from the Temple

I feel like the organ and piano should be just a tiny bit more in the back (or maybe the drums more in front). I was gonna say it feels long but then it changed up in the middle. I have to say I like this second part better.

One Must Fall: 2097 - One Must Funk 'til 2097

Nice beat and bassline. I think that there should be more going on, feels kinda empty despite the arrangement being relatively full. I like the sound of the lead synth. The song has the perfect length, otherwise it would get repetitive.

Pop'n TwinBee: Rainbow Bell Adventures - Mr. Green Hill

The piano could be a bit brighter, it sounds kinda muddy right now. I like the overall sounds. Nice bass playing. Guitar playing is ok too. The arrangement is good but the transitions feel a bit sudden.

Sonic the Hedgehog 3, Final Fantasy VI - Hard Days

Nice vocals. Drums sound mechanical, and could stand to be louder when everything drops in. I also hear some clipping during the organ solo. Nice Hard Times reference.

Super 3D Noah's Ark - For Sacrifice

I like your style. The voiceover is cool but I can’t really make out all the words. The leads could’ve been louder in the outro section. Nice ending riff.

Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Tournament Fighters - Part of Tmnt TF (Congratulation dedicaded to VGM MAGfest Family)

Nice synth in the intro. I was expecting this to go full 90s Initial D eurobeat, missed opportunity right there.

The Incredible Crash Dummies - Incredible CTE Boys

Mixing is too muddy on this. Drums and bass take over everything, I can barely hear the guitars. I think I heard a Highway Star reference though.

Time Trax - Multi Trax

Great mix, I like your drum sound. I wish this song was longer.

All men dream, but not equally. Those who dream by night in the dusty recesses of their minds, wake in the day to find that it was vanity: but the dreamers of the day are dangerous men, for they may act on their dreams with open eyes, to make them possible.

I really want a bunch of shirts now that just say "1994" but in the fonts of different logos, like Nintendo, SEGA, Sony, Microsoft, specific console logos like the Genesis/Mega Drive, Gameboy, Saturn, Dreamcast, GameCube, Wii, PS2/3/4, PSP, Vita, Xbox/360/One, like fucking twenty shirts that just say "1994" in a stylish way.

I want them so bad.

My faves are minor Onett and Demon's Crest, arrangement wise they did really cool things, with Demon's Crest being very complete sounding musically, which is pretty rare. I find most DoD entries (my own especially) lack a musical arc that tie a song into itself, and they end up being more like cool unfinished statements rather than complete pieces, production/technical things aside that is.
