I got off the VH train a long long time ago, but I probably never would have picked a guitar if not for Eddie Van Halen. RIP.

I didn't realize that he had cancer. That sucks. He may not have invented two handed tapping but he sure as shit popularized it.
Had it for a while. It ended up in remission, but came back hard it sounds like. Throat cancer is not something I would wish him to have to suffer any longer with, having seen it in action in my own extended family. Same thing; too much smoking and alcohol.
RIP to a legend.
I'm imagining Ellis writing the script to this at a computer, and every time he gets to the end of a line about religion being bad he smacks his fedora to tip it, making the sounds of a typewriter being reset.

a lotta ppl dont realize how much of an incredible songwriter evh was on the keys too. he did this with an ehx microsynth, they cost about 50 bucks back in the day and had a weird paper insert under the keys that made them a bit finicky. now they go for about a grand. stuff like this, evh's noodly stuff was what laid the groundwork for 1984 and the synths coming into their sound.

the way i understood it was that his cancer was in remission. he had a sizable portion of his tongue taken off. dlr said van halen was done and im thinking maybe him and eddie got real with each other and he told him 'this is it' after the last tour. the cancer spread to his brain and other organs. fuck that fucking disease.
