#1395422 guitarra

Posted by Czyszy on Yesterday, 05:32 AM

I put new strings on my balalaika (2 nylon Es (1st classical guitar string), 1 steel A (.08 electric guitar string). It's no longer a balalasitar. ;_; I initially had some extreme intonation problems due to the nut slots being too shallow for the nylon strings (they weren't reaching the 0 fret). I sawed the nut a little bit it and it's alright now.

BTW it was designed for loop end strings but ball ends work just as fine. xD

Shakespeare's bones might sound a little dark, a bit fizzy on the top end but the low punch's still nostalgic. Also, Zeuhl kicks ass.

Great! Those might turn out to be helpful in writing my own J-Pop inspired tracks.

#1392442 The home recording thread

Posted by Czyszy on 19 December 2018 - 05:20 AM

I decided to finally buy some overhead mics for my kit. I chose Rode M3 because they were inexpensive.

I'm a total noob in terms of playing the drums right now so I put together a Kontakt library so as to hear the mics in action. The overall sound's pretty dead and muffled but that's the way I love it (70s prog/funk style). I left out all the bleed to add some extra dirt.

Now here's the setup I used for the sample library:

Kick - Shure SM58 (inside the bassdrum shell, off center)

Snare - Shure C6 (a super cheap Karaoke device but it works surprisingly well)

Room - AT-2035 (I also use it for vocals and everything else)

OHs - 2 x Rode M3 (quasi XY position, from above the hihat pointed at the snare)

The music in Metal Slug 4 and 5 is made up of pre-recorded tracks streamed in 11khz mono, not generated on the spot (like in Metal Slug 1-3). All the music from the games that's on YT comes from the CD version that's been remixed to stereo.
