AZ Music Family Tree/Timeline: The Grid @ Trunk Space

We know it won't please everyone, but keep in mind it was a compromise between a lot of ideas, and if we do this again (which we can and want to) we'll refine it, and try different ideas.
Guidelines/design:
The Grid will be on the long, tall wall of the Trunk Space.
The "timeline" will go across the upper part of the wall, broken down into 5 year blocks, starting with 1990.
1990-1995, 1996-2000, 2001-2005, BEYOND------ (did I do that breakdown right? ).
We will make some room for pre-1990 "legacy" acts who need to be included, but it'll be a small pool.
Bands included this year must be from The Valley. We intentionally left this a little vague, but the intent is to focus on acts from the greater region, we'll try and be broad in our interpretation though.
Also, the band must have played at least one show, or had a formal music release (a mass produces CD/tape/Lp ect . . .)
This timeline will consist of the bands, listed in the 5 year "block" they started.
To be included a band must have a member in common with some other band on the Grid.
Solo acts are also "bands," but you'll likely have partnered w/ someone somewhere along the way--right?
(like who played oboe on your first CD or something)
Along the lower part of the wall will be a "bank" of musician's names, grouped by (more or less) decade of birth) 1950-1960, 1961-1970, 1971-1980, ect . . .
If anyone doesn't want to give away the decade they were born in, don't sweat it, we'll just mix you in somewhere.
Bands must be based here (if you started started elsewhere then moved here that is okay too).
Again, we'll have a fair amount of leway with this if you're band moved at some point or whatever.
No "traditional" cover bands. IE, the MiniBosses are good to go, but if you've been rockin' out in a Foghat cover band, sorry they just ain't gunna make the list. Also, if say . . . Dread Zepplin or Weird Al were AZ based, they could be included too.
What We Need From You (Bands, other contributors):
--Name of your band
--ALL the people who've played in the band
--Year band started, as close the the day/date as possible (and if applicable, the date that band ended)
SEND YOUR INFO HERE: grid@theshizz.org
Once things start going up on the wall, we'll use colored twin of some sort to connect people to bands, and if one band led directly to another, we'll make a connection there too (so let us know if your band transformed into some other band along the way).
--Any flyers you have from old shows to decorate the "no man's land" between the top and bottom of the wall.
--Also, anything you're willing to donate for sale which will be displayed on the opposit wall--this could be rare local music releases, band shirts, posters, photos of shows bands, anything related to the local scene that made it grow, made it interesting, relevant.
--Profits from these sales will go to The Shizz. The Trunk Space does take a 30% commission on sales to cover our opperating expenses too--sorry I hope that doesn't sound bad.
--We'll also set up a way for people to directly donate to this event, to contribute to ongoing shizz maintenance
--We also want to create some sort of shirt or print for sale to commemorate this event, details to follow.
If anyone wants to help design this, make them, please let me know.
If you want to help w/ the install, please let us know, it'll be more fun then work I'm sure.
Okay, thanks to everyone who has helped so far, and for the continued support.
Sincerely, JRC & The TS Family

-trunkspaceAll the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

Please email your info to the grid@ address, even if you're already on one of the earlier charts.
So far we've only got info for about 10-15 bands, and we know there's plenty more then that.
Thanks,

chronic future
bact tend n ted
miniture tigers
enemy of society
meatwhistle

rumpspringer
No one included their age/decade of birth, but almnost everyone gave the year/month the band started so I guess we might pass on the whole personal age thing.
We do have a lot of names/bands from the spreadsheet, but we don't have the year for the bands.
So far we don't have any definite info on who is bringing pictures/flyers/merch to post on the other wall, drop us a note at the same email if you plan on bringing something, and what it is.
Also, I haven't made any progress on the comemorative shirt for this, really sorry.
I hope we can get someone to under take the shirt project in time to get a sample done by the 19th.
If you want to/can help let us know. I think we will be able to use Corey's press, but we'll need someone to design it, and do the actual printing, I have design ideas, but don't have the time to lead this part of the project--sorry.
Thanks so far for the help, you guys are great and this is going to be a really fun evolving show.
Sincerely,
JRC

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

Install got off to a pretty good start Sunday Night.
I think we got somewhere around 75-100 bands on the wall?
+ a lot of names.
Unfortunately, we had A LOT of trouble getting the info to print in an easy to reference form, so there are a lot of names and bands w/ out a connection made between them yet.
BECKY was a godsend un finding connections between bands.
If anyone wants to come in before Friday to make sure your data is included correctly, we recommend Wednesday about 7PM.
Plus, we need more info on bands from 90-95, as that is the thenest area so far.
Thanks!

We'l have to avoid the tango dancers though . . .

Basic idea:
one color w/ tones of band names, and a 2nd color w/ tons of lines that seem to lead from one act to the other.
Plus, somewhere the shizz & Trunk space on it somewhere, I guess included as band names more or less.
Pretty simple idea, but to look good, that is the thing.
Plus, don't want to hurt anyone by not including their band, but actually now that I think of it, maybe we could leave the band name-less and let people write in the names we couldn't/didn't include there?
Just put the lines on back.
How does that sound?
Then, we need to get t-shirts.
XO,
JRC
