Hey all

i don't know if anyone on here has much digital camera knowledge (flawed, you there?). I am looking to buy a camera, and was wondering if anyone had any recommendations. I have been checking out the Olympus C-4000 Zoom, and the Olympus Stylus 400. I would primarily be using the camera to photograph the vintage jewelry I sell on ebay. I have been using my mom's Sony Cybershot DSC-S70. I like that cam, but would like something a little smaller, and with more megapixels. (both of those Olympus cams are 4...the dsc-s70 is 3.3).

I like the look of the Stylus, it seems smaller and easier to carry around if I am using it for personal use. But the C-4000 has the Macro feature down to 1 inch for super close-ups, whereas the Stylus has only a zoom feature. (3x optical & a 4x digital zoom combines to give you 12x total seamless zoom). Now, I would sometimes want to use the cam to get very close up to pieces of jewelry, to take a pic of a designer mark or something. Could I use a 12x zoom for that?

Anyone have any opinions, recommendations? I do not have a ton to spend on this, I want to keep it under $375 if possible, and don't mind buying refurbished if there is a warranty.
thanks a lot!!

i know lots about them. make sure to get one with a lens cover and that takes batteries. also never use them as a stool or chopping block. if you are going to hack up limbs or dispose of a body, make sure to cover the FIREWIRE input thing with plastic. one time i got some dude's ear in there and it didnt work very well after that.

This site should have ALL you'll need to help decide what to get. I can't say enough good things about it:

hey kristin

it's probably a little late, but just in case you come away empty handed from your shopping trip....i have a kodak dx3500. it's got a 3x zoom, but it is autofocus (biggest drawback). my friend who makes jewelry has used it several times to take closeups for her catalog and i think she ended up getting the same model. you're welcome to try it out if you want.

I bought a digital camera 2 days ago. It's a FujiFilm FinePix 1400. It's pretty outdated, 1.3 Mega pixels, 3 X Zoom. It was only $50 and I've been wanting a digital camera for the past few months. So far I have to say it rocks!! I don't have to buy film or pay for developing. The drawbacks so far... I just put batteries in and they're already dead. I've been using it alot though. I've already taken over a 100 pictures and I think I left if on by accident. :)

ANYWAY i did buy a camera, went with the Canon Powershot A70. haven't had a chance to mess with it yet, but am pretty psyched. :D
