Any ideas on the best place to unload my old used books for maximum credit?

Unless you have rare or out-of-print books, I'd imagine that most people are going to say Bookman's (Mesa or Phoenix) or Changing Hands (Tempe).

I haven't been to Changing Hands in forever, but they always have good stuff in stock (used & new). If I remember correctly, you can use trade credit towards the purchase of anything (new or used) in their store. They also have a small CD section that you can use your credit toward.

Both locations of Bookman's are bigger than Changing Hands (especially the Mesa store), but depending on your tastes and what you're looking for, you may or may not find it since they pretty much exclusively sell only used books. Unless you're looking for something specific (in which case they can look it up on computer to tell you where in the store it might be, not necessarily if it's in stock), it might take some browsing and sifting to find something you like.

Bookman's trade-in credit on used books, though, is only good toward "b-trade" credit - that's explained here:

As far as which store gives you the best value/maximum credit, I'm not exactly sure - it seems like a toss-up.

If you have any old Ray Bradbury, Charles Bukowski, Daniel Clowes, Chuck Palahniuk, Harvey Pekar, Hunter S. Thompson or Mark Twain. I'll buy them from you.

I don't have anything interesting to trade in, my priciest ones are probably some weightlifting books that I'm looking to trade for some books on Budhism and meditation. I have a bunch of Steven King books at my mom's house I'll go get in a week or so.

Thanks for the suggestions, I didn't know about the restrictions at Bookman's.

I agree... bookman's is ok. For three crates of books I 'earned' $28 or so. This included textbooks, and pop psychology stuff.

You might try Old Town Books on Mill Avenue in Tempe as well. They do not pay top dollar, but worth it if you're looking to get rid of stuff.

So I went to changing hands with a box of books, and the first thing they ask is if I'd want to donate the books they don't want, and I said yeah of course. I come back 20 minutes later and they said they'd only take one book and so I get $6. Meanwhile, after I've left, I think to myself that they should have totally wanted at least a few of those books, they were pretty much brand new. I guess I have to trust them that they're really donating the books and not just telling me they are, thus screwing me out of money. I would have been more comfortable if they asked about the donations afterwards, because if I new they'd only take one of the 20 books I brought I would have tried to sell them somewhere else.

Oh well, it's a box of books that I really didn't care about and were just taking up space in a closet.
