I'm looking for a good veterinarian (for my dog and cat) in the downtown area, the hours that my old one has (Central Phoenix Animal Hospital) dont fit with my work schedule. any recommendations?
i have heard fantastic things about alta vista. i had a friend that had to go there in an emergency situation and got in right away. they have later hours and several vets on staff so they can accomodate last minute appointments.
i just go to the petsmart vet (banfield) for right now. they are open really late.

Alta Vista is a horrible vet, don't go there. My family and I have been a customer of theirs for 30+ years, and up until the past few years has been a great vet. Unfortunately, they have completely gone down hill ever since their owner has retired and hasn't (in my opinion) taken an active interest in his business. The only reason I still go there is because my cat who has been a patient there for 22 years is on deaths door. Moving now wouldn't be realistic. Once she's gone, Im never going back.
Here are a few reasons to not go there:
- Office staff and Vet staff for that matter has been a revolving door. Everytime I go in, Im usually seeing a differnet vet
- They charge me different amounts for the same medications every time I go in. Sometimes more, sometimes less (isn't that what records are for?)
- They say they call in prescriptions to the pharmacy, when I go to pick them up, they say the Vet never called it in.
- They tell you the Vet will call you with test results, and they don't.
- They are completely disorganized. Go there on a busy night and the desk clerk never knows who is next
- They botched surgerys on my Mom's dogs. One was a simple non-cancererous cyst removal from the dog's leg, now he has a permanent limp.
