The targets of their ire were the women, and some men, who have dared to speak up against the club’s policy of forbidding women in the men’s grill room, a center of power dining in Phoenix.

Barbara Van Sittert, one of those women, said her husband, Logan, 73, has been heckled while playing golf and once found his locker defaced.

“They hooted and hollered at him and called his wife a whore,” said Mrs. Van Sittert, 72, a petite, quiet woman with an elegant white bob. “It was not warm and fuzzy.”

That sucks, but maybe these rich people should just find better things to do with their time.

I'm guessing this is a private club, so in that case, I don't really care on way or another.

Looking at this:

Women at the club are not permitted to have lunch in the men’s grill room with their husbands after a round of golf; they have been barred from trophy ceremonies after tournaments, even ones they have sponsored, and may not participate in one of the most sacred rituals of the men’s grill room — sealing a deal over a beer with a client.

I care even less.

I'll support women's rights as far as it being a good thing, but when it comes to making rich women able to act like their smarmy husbands, no thanks.

*Disclaimer: I know not everyone in a country club is terrible, so take this post with a grain of salt.

i am sure all these rich people will figure it out. i just thought it was funny that it was in the New York Times. There are many clubs across the country that do this (especially close to NYC), so why feature the phx country club?

Though on a sidenote, some of the movers and shakers involved in certain aspects of civic and cultural life in this city are rich men and if (rich) women want to advance in these types of ranks, stuff like this really puts a damper on that kind of shit. It is a big rich white boys club and they have vested interests in keeping it that way at all costs because god-forbid their innate male privileges get absolved (by femi-nazis no less)!

And though it sounds so passe and ludicrous that business and political deals are made this way, it would be naive and stupid to not believe it. We might think it doesn't affect us poorer folk but in a variety of trickle-down-esque ways it really does.

I do find it absurd that the current governor of AZ is not allowed in the grill room there, but maybe that's a good thing considering our history of shady politicians making shady backroom deals.

anyways rich people drama.....

The point is that this is an exclusive club with membership criteria.

I'm sure it requires a background check, financial status check,

and probably a DNA cheek swab, just to make sure you are white. And Republican

This is the type of thing I could care less about: rich people whining about rich people who are not them, i.e. rich white men.

You see the rich white men make the rules in places like this.

There is no equality.

In fact, the Phoenix Country Club sits on a county island within Phoenix.

That being said, the name is a misnomer, as it is not even considered Phoenix.

Anyhow, if you join an exclusive club, say the Catholic Church or something,

and you're a woman and want to be a priest I gots news for you.

Or you are a fundamentalist Muslim woman, your hopes of being bikini supermodel are not in the cards.

If you join a place like this willingly, and go through the process of being admitted to a card carrying

exclusive club, you cannot be expected to be heard when you cry about things not going your way.

Not to say that I agree with this, it is deplorable and takes civil rights back to the old days.

However, we are talking about rich, white, republican men here.

Anything goes apparently.

They're still angry about Tiger, do you think they're gonna listen to a bunch of broads?

PS I bet they grill a mean steak there, huh fellas?

pss I have no chance of gaining admittance as I am neither white, rich, or republican.
Though I was on the varsity golf team in high school. That counts, right?

Ah well thank you good sirs.
I was having lunch with my white devil of a boss (who took me there), approximately eleven years ago.

As for being poor--anyone want to buy a guitar?
