There is a new search engine that was created by some ex google employees that claim they don't want all of your personal data.

http://cuil.com

It's new, so I have seen a little bit of slowness, I did a search on a couple of words that didn't come up with any results. I believe they went live today, so I am sure they are still working out kinks, but if this is as promising as it sounds, I might switch over from google.

yeah, I said it.

here is an excerpt from their "about us" page at http://www.cuil.com/info/

We believe that analyzing the Web rather than our users is a more useful approach, so we don’t collect data about you and your habits, lest we are tempted to peek. With Cuil, your search history is always private.

People don't give a shit, unless it affects them personally, this affects me personally!

Chromelodeon manages to get all the furniture from their hotel into the lake a few years back...and people are worried about shizzies?

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

saw it on /. this morning, tried it, wasn't impressed.

1. it doesn't get nearly as good results as google. searching my name and my website gets very few results compared to google. this can improve as their indexing base gets bigger though...

2. i hate the layout. the pictures don't make sense, and why they didn't put things in a list is beyond me. searching is meant to provide quick access to info you want, and the results page should make it easy to gloss over. google nailed that and cuil ignored it.

Just FYI to all planned business owners - If you're launching a website, and your go live date is today, and you've hired a publicist who has sent press releases to every major news organization, and you've got a great gimmick that capitalizes on recent news reports about privacy concerns, you better be damn sure you have plenty of capacity so when John Lipfert clicks on the link to your site, it doesn't sit and load nothing for 120 seconds before he closes the tab and forgets you exist.

the pictures don't make sense

the link to the emperors of japan band website has a picture of the ass pony's electric rock music album cover next to it.

HA! i searched a handful of other bands and the photo results are pretty funny. chief beef has a picture of sedona, and then another link for their upcoming shows has a picture of 3 dudes that are definitely NOT chief beef.

the first listing for colorstore has the video game cover for command and conquer.
