Which is why I'm glad she's leaving SNL. The last time I laughed at SNL was... I dunno, maybe back in 99 when I thought it wasn't all that funny anyways. But now I actually get embarrassed watching the show sometimes, especially when people like Amy Poehler have been in some of my most favorite stuff ever. That does suck, she was my fav in Upright Citizens Brigade.
She had a cameo in an episode of Wondershowzen that was hilarious.
If SNL is not gonna be funny, it might as well have unfunny people in it. Hell, Mad TV has terribly unfunny people, and it's funnier than SNL.
Of course, I don't like Chris Farley or Will Ferrell* that much, so my opinion probably counts for jack shit to most people.
Anyways, those two look like they are playing the parts well in that video. No sound at work so I can't tell.
*Funny thing, I pretty much hate any SNL skit involving Will Ferrell, but I somehow love Anchorman and Blades of Glory?? Further evidence that my opinion counts for shit.

To me, modern SNL is like a bunch of comedians repeatedly yelling "hey, hey, hey, look at me, hey, i'm being funny!" than a bunch of comedians actually using jokes to be humorous.

Thank you, I never thought the cowbell skit was funny....and it nearly ruined a classic song for me.....it's funny, I play a live ( & cowbell-less) version of 'Reaper" when I 'DJ' sometime, & sure enough, people play air cowbell to it.....
I thought the Dick In The Box thing was pathetic, too, though....go figure...
What are we all, 15?
(I'm one to talk......I'm generally down with potty humour....)
I dunno.
Comedy has sunk, though, to be sure.

There was a time, though, that I believed that Lorne Michaels should hand over immediate producing duties to someone younger and who has a better read on the pulse of what's going on, but really, it's his ship to navigate (except those few years that it wasn't).
Everyone always says that the current season is the worst ever and they're usually just exaggerating based on what little they've seen of it (because really, does anyone catch it when it's being broadcast anymore - like in our age group).
If you go back and check out old episodes (even during some of the more classic eras), most of those episodes are mixed bags and a lot of them haven't aged well.
This is more of the comedy nerd / humor theory angle but for me the killer is having a sketch that is great and then killing it by bringing it back. It's not so much the bringing it back that kills it as much as the focus and execution of it.
Case in point, Amy Poehler playing a spazzy little girl and Horatio Sanz playing Rick, her seemingly apathetic stepdad.
The original sketch is one of my favorites of all time - it's subtle and sweet. Amy spazzes out with that character and Rick mostly seems to ignore her, then there's a turn where we get to see that all of her energy is that of a girl concerned with making the right impression on her friends and scared that she'll be labeled as uncool (which she most certainly is). Rick, who's mostly been seemingly apathetic to her spazziness, then does something really sweet to make his stepdaughter cool (I don't remember what it was).
Anyway, the original sketch was funny, touching, and had heart to it.
When it was brought back however many times, it was just Amy Poehler acting crazy as the girl and incessantly yelling "Rick! Rick!" I'm a sucker for Poehler acting crazy, but it just didn't compare.
Anyway - sorry to bore you with all that ... but that's one of the things that isn't really all that happening in regards to SNL - bringing back characters and sketches that are merely husks of the originals, if the originals were all that spectacular to begin with.
That and the endless tv show and talk show parodies. We get it - it would be funny if (random quirky celebrity) had a talk show or whatever.
Still ... SNL may not be the grand experiment that it was (check out the first season on DVD), but putting togther a cohesive show in a week while incorporating a random guest host who might range from awesome to horribly bad (and once things are underway, there's nothing you can do about it) - that still seems like something worth catching from time to time.

i think snl is hit and miss, like it has always been. i thought last season, with a slimmed down cast, was pretty good. there have been some hilarious sketches in the last few years. i thought the "space olympics" digital short was pretty funny this past weekend. i mean, not HIlarious or anything, but funny.
I laughed so hard at THIS the first time I saw it, I think I broke something. Tina Fey in a bad wig with a pink hatchet!
I also thought THIS ONE was really funny. I guess I just really like SNL fake commercials.
