i need to replace a print head in a large format Epson inkjet printer (the head alone is 900 bux) and i'm not so thrilled to dig into this thing not knowing much about it. Lemme know.

Well whenever I need to fix something at work and don't have a clue how to do it I look up the manual online. I'm sure you can find the directions out there on how to do it. If not what is the model of printer and I will see if I can find it for you.

my expeirience with ink jet printers is that it is usually easier to just purchase a new one than to try to fix the old one because the print heads are so ridiculously expesnsive. Otherwise you can take the old print head out and soak the area that prints in ammonia to clear out any clogging that might be going on with dried ink. If it is a hardware issue i.e. the print head error not talking to the printer then a new print head might be in order. Also, try searching on epson's site for tips on repairing print heads or other discussion boards with your printer.

I tired this with a Canon 820s and i eventually gave in an and just tossed it and bought an HP...HP's have the print head built into the ink cartridge. No matter what...printers are usually cheaper than the ink you will buy over the life of the printer so it usually pans out better to just purchase a new one.

Yeah I agree Dan but with it being a large format printer will it be any cheaper. I say go laser if you can. It will save you money in the long run!

THIS is the printer. It's about 60 grand, new, so a new one is out of the question. I need a tech guy, but the guy who works for this company is out of town and would need to be flown in... It's a bunch of bullshit, pretty much.

oh its a commerical printer...that is out of my league...sorry about that...I thought you were reffering to a home printer.

$60,000 is crazy...yeah a repair guy would be the best approach if you can find one.

I second Dan on that. Have you tried calling local printer repair outfits instead of using the manufactuer suggestion? There are a few in town. I had a hard time finding someone to work on an older xerox scanner but people are out there who will.

ask dale from the necronauts. he knows a guy who might
do it for you under the table if you can go that route.
it would be cheaper than hiring the guy's company outright
i think.

Thanks, Baron. I'll give him a shout. I found a guy locally, but he doesn't make house calls and we can't lug this thing outta here.
