the district is getting a new carrier next year and i wanted to know if i should continue to go with them, or just keep me on and get jen on her own with some other company.
i pay 0 dollars for my inusrance but 400 a month to include jen.
does that sound right?
or am i looking at all avenues to save money?
thanks

All my figures would be based on an older couple . . . for a quest like this, an actual insurance agent might be helpful.

That seems pretty pricey. I pay around 250 a month for a family of 3 through my employer. But you aren't the first person I've heard of that is a teacher and has to pay a ton of money to insure a family member. You might want to check out Blue Cross Blue Shield. They are one of the main carriers in AZ, but I don't know what their reputation is like. I know my sister in law was covered privately through them for around 150.00 a month, but that could've been a restricted policy of some sort.
totally, the other art teacher here has a husband with ms and a son and they pay 600 a month. dude............ what?
yea initally i had blu cross blue shield, then the district tried to save money by going to aetna, which had some crazy good deal for the first year then they jacked up the prices, sneaks.
but from what i hear they are going back to blue cross blue shield next year. so hopefully it will drop.
argh

yea. 400 times 12 = 4800 a year and thats not adding in any office visits or prescriptions or procedures. but like you said, we don't go to the hospital until the bleeding gushes, and even then i opt out, still can't feel my left thumb or far part of my left hand due to a Halloween pumpkin carving incident.

I guess I am one of e the lucky ones with health care...most who work for governemnt usually have decent coverage. I work for the county so I get many more options than others might get. One is the low end county hospital option which is free. $0 deductible. Hospital is free. Drawback is that I would have to go to the county hospital for everything...no thanks...my wife works there and while I am sure they do great things there I have seen the wait times a lines for things.
The plan I actually opted for is through CIGNA an HMO dealy doo that is ok...now that my wife is expecting I will be upping the plan come July to a PPO so that we can get the home birth costs of a midwife covered versus going to the hospital where they charge ridiculous amounts of money for a box of kleenex.
