i was going to make a zine of just photos of phoenix stencils, stickers, and wheat paste i've seen around town but this is better.

This is my absolute favorite but alas it is no longer up. It was by Holgas and the wall it was on got painted over:

dude stencil art is done son. all that shit is biting off banksy. come on people do something different.

sorry, i have beef with it because that's all my students want to do, and it's like go look up the word cliche for me in the dictionary

i think the communication behind what they are doing is fine just that the method is tired

but so is crosshatching so- guilty as charged

All the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

I don't like to call any artistic movements "done"

People say that about painting all the time.

People thought the photograph was going to render painting and drawing DONE. That was wrong.

everything is done son.

so do it.

Somewhere in downtown, there's a wheatpaste of Danny Tanner from Full House.

I can't think of where it is off the top of my head, though.

About 10 years ago when my friends son started school one day she went and spray painted things along his walking route for him to see and remind him to have a good day. They were things like stencils of bunnies and what not. Most of them are gone now but the best is going over the foot bridge in 7th ave as you are walking toward Kenilworth school look down and and on top of the small building below you will see the word enjoy written there. Now that's a mothers love : )

yea i know, thats why i said i was guilty as charged.

but i still think it's cliche, just my opinion. like people who do splatter art, pollock did that, let him have it.

i guess i don't mind if people do stencil art, i just wish they would do something different then what banksy is doing. i feel that artists can steal from one another but should make the style their own. so it's obvious that that particular artist did the work came up with the idea or built on an already existing style. so if i see a piece i can say oh thats so and so. not oh thats a banksy piece oh shit wait we are in bisbee az and was banksy really here thats awesome oh from talking to the hippy owner of the corner store it's actually some kid called trixie. and who is bansky by the way. oh he's this famous british artist that started this whole kind of street art. oh

art is subjective, you like what you like, and i will like what i like, and maybe some times we can like the same things, and maybe sometimes we won't,

and thats what is fun about art, it gets a conversation going which is what it did so SUCCESS!
