Definitely won't be heading out to Mesa, although I LOVE Rosa's Mexican Grill in Mesa. We will be wanting to stay a little closer to home, Phoenix style.
I love Arriba mexican grill on camelback and 16th st.

Garcia's on 35th Ave and Encanto. It's not the chain Garcia's. Te food is tasty, the atmosphere is nice, and the prices are good.

You know, I think I ate there when I was a kid. We used to visit out here, and my aunt and uncle used to take us to Garcia's. Well, when I moved out here I thought it must be the chain Garcia's, but I remembered it being so awesome. I just looked at this location on the map, and I am pretty sure that is where we used to go. Sweet!

Agreed. That Garcia's is awesome! It might be my all time favorite.Garcia's on 35th Ave and Encanto. It's not the chain Garcia's. Te food is tasty, the atmosphere is nice, and the prices are good.

Jacki O's right about La Pinata, and so is MikeyWretch about Arriba's.
I also like Macayo's on Central: they have great chimi's.
There's also Caramba's (the two I go to are 55th ave and Glendale and 67th ave and Bell). They make awesome carne asada burritos.
Carlos Obrien's on 7th St and Northern is also pretty good, too.
Chevy's is good, more commercial atmosphere, but good.
Damn, now I am hungry!!

You were dead on w/ Barrio Cafe.
for legit gourmet mexican the conversation begins and ends there.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.
