All the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

dear rest of the world,
sorry we're such ridiculous, backwards dipshits.

sincerely,
america

p.s. if reagan had decided to give a speech to school students, it would have been declared a national holiday. just because you don't like the president doesn't mean he's not the president. show some fucking respect, you douchebag hillbillies.

i think it's cool. If i was a kid and i heard that the president of my country was going to deliver a speech directly to me and my friends i would be thrilled! No adults allowed!

Kids are ignored in our country, especially in the political sphere. I think this is a cool way to get kids interested in what's happening politically in their country. They are future of the U.S. n' shit right?

Knowledge is power!

That can be a scary thing for certain types of people.

ugh, this is the headline on Yahoo:

Parents Angry at Obama

"But some parents and conservatives are blasting the president, calling the speech an excuse to brainwash American children."

hahahaahahahahahaahhaha

brainwash for what? to vote democratic in 10 years? To support health care reform?

hahahaha

To Horne, Arizona's superintendent of public schools, sent out a press release condemning the speech. What a douche!

I honestly don't understand why everyone is getting so upset over this...this goes for both dems and repubs. On one hand I would think this is pretty cool that the president would be addressing me if I were still kicking the soccerball around the playground. On the other hand I can see why some parents are upset though. A couple district superintendents posted a letter to parents stating that they would not let parents opt their children out of the event. Since when does a superindent peon have the right to order parents what to do with their children...this is why i think many people are upset...then the ultra lib dems get all butt hurt becuase these people aren't respecting the prez and paying homage to him like they do ...

bottom line...nobody wants someone else to tell them what to do with their kids...especially if they are politicians...Jesus worthy or not.

hmm i dunno about that. well, ok maybe you are talking about all the bitchy people who is not students. but as someone who was one year shy of voting age when Bush got elected, and going through the latter years of high school and all of college while he was in office, i can honestly say i'd have given a big ol' "fuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuck yooooooooooooouuu" if he was giving a speech to me.

lot's of people were bitchy during Bush, and lots of people told people to shut up about it. same thing is happening now. might be to a larger degree on both sides now though.

remember that show on Nickelodeon back in the early 90's? Nick News with Linda Ellerbee? that ruled. actually it's still on, and never stopped, apparently, but i haven't seen anything about it in years.

actually i changed my mind. people bitched then, people bitch now, no denying this. but the content of the complaining and bitching and moaning is vastly different. during bush even the layman could offer some decent insight as to why things were a bad idea. but now responses basically amount to "because i said so". so yeah, fuck people.

my school had to send home a letter stating that if the parents didn't want their kids to see the prez, they would be put in the library during the speech and do some other activity.

teachers in my district may or may not choose to show the speech.

i think thats fine with me

you don't want your kid to watch the leader of our nation, then cool.

if bush had done the same i would want my kid to watch it just so they could see how lame the dude was, but really they could make up their own mind.

personally i believe that it's pretty cool that the prez is going to tell kids about the importance of education, i think they need that. thats what the speech is going to be about, not health care not the cia, not anything but why staying in school is good for you.

gosh

yeah, high school age kids can say that.

but little kids? 1st graders? they don't even know what the fuck a republican or a democrat is. they barely understand the concept of "the president", they just know he's important.

i'd let my kid listen to a speech by the president, regardless of who it is. it's the president.

Why don't the Republicans just demand equal time, you know, they could have John McCaine come out and say staying is school is a stupid liberal lie.

Because, well, that's what they fucking believe in Arizona.
