although i'm still concerned about the economic implication here. while i, myself, am a liberal on most matters, i find it increasingly troubling that this bill was characterized by more than a couple of representatives as a "liberal bill by liberals for liberals" which tells me that it also is a function of liberal economics which is usually pretty crappy economics. that said, this is like the greatest democratic victory since the 60s!

great so the house passed a good healthcare bill with a fucked up amendment that takes away my access to abortion services in the private health insurance that i fucking pay for. Now no one will have access to abortion services, private or public health insurance unless they can afford to pay for it themselves. So, if this amendment passes in the senate, our private health insurance can cover hard-on medicine but not abortion? Something that private health insurance companies have been doing for years? Now legally they cannot.
two steps forward, 1 step back.
retreat to move forward?
our government hates American women

Cases for abortion services that are excluded: where the health but not the life of the woman is threatened by the pregnancy, severe fetal abnormalities, mental illness or anguish that will lead to suicide or self-harm, and the numerous other reasons women need to have an abortion.
Pro-Life until you're born, right? Fuckers.

I can't even explain how enraged I am at this. I can't believe this is America. Why would we protect the rights of a blastocyst over the rights of a fully grown woman to remain healthy?Cases for abortion services that are excluded: where the health but not the life of the woman is threatened by the pregnancy, severe fetal abnormalities, mental illness or anguish that will lead to suicide or self-harm, and the numerous other reasons women need to have an abortion.

you can't say "here's your healthcare bill! everyone gets healthcare now - except for women. Sorry. You still have to be the victims in the ideological war being waged in our government"
this is a sneaky way for anti-choice/freedom fuckfaces to circumvent Roe v. Wade and deny millions of women access to abortion services. This amendment makes it harder for women to have affordable access to abortion if they should need it.
they can't make it illegal (though they try and try) so they have to make it practically impossible.

Just wrote letters to Diane Feinstein tonight at my planned parenthood group. We all urged her to keep the bill from going through. I'll be taking up this issue by tabling on campus to make sure students are aware of the situation. Obama said that the health care bill was going to include comprehensive reproductive health services, and planned parenthood is going to gently "remind" him of that with more letters and urging.
word.
and sadly i will be writing a pointless letter to McCain and Kyle's offices that will fall on deaf ears because both of those fuckers are total douchefaces. i can't wait til McCain kicks the bucket...good riddance!
of course it did!
and now it doesn't! haha dumbasses
