They wanted it to be their great 20th century legislative success but allowing these anti-choice amendments to be attached to the bill is killing it.
i dont support this healthcare bill until these anti-choice amendments are stripped from the bill.
Until then i will encourage my senators to vote against the bill (which they will bc c'mon it's McCain and Kyle! those two are douchefaecs)

it's still shitty (no federal funding for abortion) but it's a start.
anytime anti-choice/freedom organizations like National Right to Life hate legislation on reproductive healthcare - that's a good thing.
they called Reid's draft "unacceptable"
yay!

What I think he may have been trying to imply is that most Americans are opposed to health care reform, and Stewart was even hinting at this being false. There is a very big difference between people who are opposed to a certain aspect of the bill and people who are just opposed to health care reform in general.
It sucks that the anti-anti-abortion people are getting lumped in with the "deyterkerjerbs" people or the people who are just wholly opposed for whatever reasons.
Jacki is probably opposed to only 1% of the bill, but in terms of "support" is being lumped with the people who oppose 100% of it. Many people opposed to some aspect of the bill actually want a bill, so it's a very skewed perspective on the issue.

Organizations and people do that with a lot of abortion polls and studies, they ask these bad questions, get yes or no answers and then flout statistics that say so and so % of americans think abortion is wrong.
i know it sucks and it's sad that many many women were not in support of the that form of the bill but it was because of one tiny change to the bill.
you can't take away women's access to affordable abortions (or abortions at all) and think that the majority of women will support that. it was a total bullshit move that put a lot of democratic party supporters or at least voters in with the assholes who oppose the bill for reasons other than the issue of abortion.
i didnt see what was so progressive about that version of the bill, it grants lots of people healthcare which is awesome but at the same time it stripped millions of people's access to a certain type of medical procedure because a few men in D.C. personally believed that procedure to be "immoral"
thankfully it was removed from the bill in the senate

Ha! No shit. Coddle the fetus, but make sure the infant and parents can't get affordable or government-subsidized quality healthcare. The GOP and "Moderate Democrat" credo. I'm amazed by how far right "moderate" actually is.Cases for abortion services that are excluded: where the health but not the life of the woman is threatened by the pregnancy, severe fetal abnormalities, mental illness or anguish that will lead to suicide or self-harm, and the numerous other reasons women need to have an abortion.
Pro-Life until you're born, right? Fuckers.
This is really scary. Check out what our neighbors in Nevada are up to.

You gotta respect Reid on this one. He's getting killed in the polls by his Republican rivals but still had the nerve to scrap the Stupak Amendment.looks like Senator Reid's drafting of the bill left out the Stupak Amendment!

This whole Senate bill got Liebermaned into quite the shit-pile. Mandating that people purchase shit insurance from shit private companies who can still stop covering if you exceed your limit (now it'll be annual instead of lifetime), and can still charge you 300% more for pre-existing condition (even if you can't be cancelled)? Brilliant!
I don't know...The Senate is so fucked as a governing institution...There's some really great ones, but there's a hell of a lot of buttholes too.
