Cut some air holes in an empty garbage can, place child inside, cover garbage can with lid, place bricks on lid.

uhhhh according to our Governor, the church (not the state) should provide day care opportunities to this state's children. So find some fucking church and throw your baby in there.

the cost of putting your child in a church-run day care? Free.
the cost of your child's future mental health after being put in a church-run day care?
Priceless.

my wife didn't work for the first year of our son's life, so she was able to stay home. then eventually we decided to put him in daycare. i think it was a pretty good decision. this would be my advice: find one that you're totally comfortable with, and also one that's going to have a low teacher/student ratio (like 5 to 1). it's going to cost more, but if you can't have a relative do it, the more attention they get the better. also, i think there's a stark difference between daycare and preschool. a lot of daycare is just a place where kids hang out while their parents work. preschool (which can start at any age) is geared more towards teaching, etc.

i was not stoked about it at first, but our kid totally became more social and independent once he started preschool (he was a little older than 1). we were driving home one day and he points at a school bus and says "daddy, yellow bus" and i was like "what the fuck? how did he know that?"

we investigated several schools. PM me if you want other details or rates or anything like that.

oh, and weener's suggestion also warrants looking into.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

not necessarily true. it's only free or discounted if you are a member of the church. many of them will still take "outsiders", but they'll charge a higher rate (Still cheaper than many independent schools, though). i'm also opposed to the whole jesus influence thing, but some friends of ours have a kid in a church run day care and they say that there's no really churchy vibe or pressure to join. they're not all evil (but i'm skeptical).

He's only 1? Are there no other family members or friends family members that can watch him?

Thankfully my boy was watched by his grandmother until he was three but after that he attended the ASU West Child development center. That place was awesome and he really enjoyed it there. But you have to wait until they're three and potty trained or at least almost potty trained.

It's so tough to make this decision when they're that schmall :( Good luck, though!

I'm pretty sure ASU main has one too, but I'm unsure as to qualifications, if any, to get your kid in. Or if that's any less out of your way.

The ASU West campus closed its center in 2008 for lack of funding! Wow... I had no idea. My sonny attended 2001-2003. It really was a very neat program. Im sure the main campus offers something similar too, though. As far as criteria for enrollment I'm not sure on that either. My son's grandfather was the Academic director for West during that time and hence our way into the program even though we weren't enrolled at that campus or ASU for that matter. That's such a shame to know it's not available anymore. Wack!

Check out montessori schools. Our daughter started one at 2 1/2 and she's loved it. The great thing about alot of the schools is that they also go into the higher grades as well. Not all montessori take younger kids but it's worth checking out. Here are a few that I know of. Khalsa Montessori, Reid Montessori, & Awakening Seed.
