man...

are you serious?

i love tapes! i LOVE them! they work. if they break, they're usually easy to fix (sure, not all the time, but compared to cds?)

i've received several tapes in the past year. they all sound fantastic.

i've got tapes i've had my entire life that still work. my mixtapes from high school that i would listen to every single day a hundred times a day still sound great if not better by their lack of fidelity. hey, TURN THAT UP!

are cassette tapes making a comeback? is vinyl? no. they just work. they work. they always have and they always will. they'll always be around. of course you can't get tapes in record stores because major corporations had to start pushing cds- temporary digital easily-breakable total garbage pieces of shit. then something bad happened: 'oh, you don't need the cd anymore? you can just download it?' well, hey, looky, looky vinyl is "MAKING A COMEBACK..." (as if it ever left! thank you hip hop and punk for keeping vinyl alive through the 90s! we all owe you a BIG one!) we're just going to charge you twice what the cd costs, but you can download it for free. (which is fine, vinyl is more expensive to manufacture, it makes way more sense than when cds were more expensive) meanwhile, tapes which have always worked, have always been inexpensive "died." sort of. we all bought into it. EVEN THOUGH THERE WAS NOTHING WRONG WITH TAPES IN THE FIRST PLACE!!! they still work and they still sound great and they're still easy to record vinyl on and they're still great for four track recording and they're still fantastic for small labels/bands to do small run demos, albums, compilations, whatever...

are tapes making a comeback? tapes are fucking BAD ASS! WHAT ARE YOU TALKING ABOUT? if they work, they are not backwards! cds are backwards. they scratch, they break. if they wanted to make cds awesome, they would've created a shell for them, like floppy discs. how hard would that would've been? when they were coming up with cds, or laser discs probably, one guy was like, hey, why don't we cover this really fragile surface? and the fuckers we're like, well, if they break all the time, people will just buy more cds. TAPES! they break, you spin them and they work again! they work! they function! they're fantastic!

of course, take my rant with a grain of salt, i still buy cds. and tapes. and vinyl. i like packaging. and holding things in my hand. i guess i'm an idiot. i don't even own an mp3 player. or a cell phone. i'm not a luddite or anything, i use itunes. i'm on the internet. i'm sure i'll eventually get those things, when i actually find a need for them, but it's just so disposable, so losable... till then, and after, i'll listen to tapes.

Except easily melting in your car, wearing out from frequent use, not having nearly the pristine fidelity of CDs (matter of opinion if this is a good or bad thing but inarguably they are not the same), etc...

Tapes are cool and all but come on they aren't the perfect format.

All the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

you got me. tapes melt in your car. i don't live in phoenix. so they don't melt in my car. i could roll my windows down and keep my baby in my car. and a 1/4" tape is not going to have the best fidelity, ever, even brand spankin new. audiophiles are going to be bummed on cassettes. given. but they're also going to be bummed on cds, since it's digital. and digital sucks. but i never said tapes were perfect. i just said they worked. vinyl is perfect, but it's not portable. i have no problem with cds, except that they're so fragile. you play em in your car, and don't put it back in its sleeve, it's done.

I think tapes are awesome. Said Gun put one and it only took us a year to move 30 copies! Probably should have put a download code though. You can set those up for free or really cheap through bandcamp.com, which is an amazing website.

sorry, this is flawed logic. an ipod fits in most pockets. no need to leave it in the car. maybe one could carry 25 cassettes around with them.

i got like 15 tapes when my car cd player broke. VEINS put out a tape this year thats actually my favorite hardcore ep of 2010 (it will be out on vinyl in a couple months). tapes are big right now because a)the 'mystery'core kids love obsolete formats that serve as a hurdle to entrance and b)they are cheap as fuck to put out for tour merch etc

the problem hit when the NEW BOMB TURKS blew my speakers. now all i can do is listen to the radio. also, after years of being anti ipod, the lady gave me her old one, and while its cool for bike rides and shit, i still am not too keen on them. im actually embarrassed i have it. but one thing that is funny to me is that it really is like the exact same size as a tape
