so i'm standing by the pump about to start filling my truck with gas when two people come sprinting past me towards the car on the other side of the pump. a woman drops an 18pk of bud light and opens the passenger side door as some guy is jumping in the driver's side. from behind me another two guys rush the car. one tries to open the driver's side door that the the driver has locked by now. the other dude takes a metal bar the size of a baseball bat and SMASHES THE FUCKING WINDHIELD IN! no bullshit. he then proceeds to smash in the passenger-side windows.. then the hood. by now the driver has started the car and starts to back out. so i'm thinking he's gonna drive the fuck outta there. nope. he gasses it and charges the dude with the metal bar. that dude is standing in front of the gas pump which is directly in front of me. i'm thinking he's about to run this dude over and slam into the gas pump and douse me with gas so i book it about 10ft and look back. luckily the guy hits the brakes in time, backs up, and speeds away onto 32nd street.
i realized that the guy must have been being held inside because they had had time to move a pickup truck in front of his car so it can't drive forward. and the woman who dropped the beer was also an employee. i don't know if she wrestled the beer away from the guy before he got to the car or what. but man.. that giant mexican dude with his braided ponytail sure had a blast fucking up that guys car. for a minute i'm thinking it's some sort of fight. like a domestic dispute or something because, in my head i'm thinking, "there's no way you can just smash the shit out of someone's car for stealing gas." at that time i figured he'd just tried to make off with some free gas.
anyway.. as the guy with the metal bar walks past me i looked at him and said, "man, you guys don't play around." and he looks at me and says, "not today." raddest morning commute ever. lol

When you said it happened in the morning, that made it such a better story.

I watch closely (when the phone rings, I say, "Thanks. They're already here") as an SUV full of cops separate the now-cuffed guy from the lady, who is joined by a friend. There are at least five officers out there, but the two nearest the chicks, who are nearest me, are watching them out of the corner of the eye, at best, so I sit in the locked car while they decompress and take nothing scarier than hairbrushes out of their pockets and purses.
I start up to drive away but have to roll down my window and politely ask them to move so I can drive, which they do.
Not nearly as fun a story, but kind of typical Phoenixy where things can go very south and then mellow out almost right away. I completely understand why my neighbors don't want a QT built at the intersection all the kids have to cross 44th at to go to school.

Diamond Shamrock at 40th St/McDowell a few weeks back: Dude and lady (who seem to be there together) walking through parking area, hollering like mad, he has her purse, some shoving starts up, she starts to slap and punch, I dial 911 from my front seat and then see the motorcycle cop already driving up to them and hang up.

One time at this very Diamond Shamrock, some black lady dumped antifreeze on my car because i 'supposedly' stole her gas pump. fuckin total bummerz. she got in her ride and zoomed off as fast as she got the antifreeze out. some peeps in PHX are crazee.

Yes, yes, YES! The law prevents me from going apeshit on a guy's windshield because he stole beer. However, this is a great story!this is better than what any cop could do to scare people from ever stealing again
