so I was thinking about starting a collective, but what's the point other than being a jerk if you start one when there already is a good one around town. basically a musician "record label" collective where we all contribute skillz. for example, I can build websites and provide childish exclamations (poop!!!@!@!@WTF?!#@%!!). Stuff like that. Someone else can help record. Someone else can help book shows.

I'd also say galleries like Trunk Space also opperate as a defacto collective too, w/ individuals contributing what they want/can to the group.

Granted, I think the shizz team has a diff aesthetic then Elephant 6, but I also believe that depending on the contributions from the collective, it has the strength to produce (as in "help the creation of" not specifically "produce" like in the "Issac Hayes way") some really diverse music). Unfortunately, I find the diff' genres don't tend to mix willingly in any music scene, unless their is a strong friendship apart from the music styles prefered.

Oh man, when/where's that gonna be? Is the general consensus that it occurs at Trunk Space?

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

friday 4/15 at trunk space, saturday 4/16 at the firehouse, plus some other stuff in between. we're going to post a big thread about it as soon as we hash out more of the details.
That sounds like fun. :-D

Of course, this helping each other record was before the days of affordable home recording. Nowadays your grandma can bust out her macbook and record your band's demo on the cheap. Nana's got skillz.
