john...: What independent film did Eddie Vedder do the soundtrack for?
me: into the wild. I love that movie.
John...: Well done. O.K... what was Edward Burns first hit as a director? (He also played a leading role in the same movie)
Me:well his first movie was the brothers mcmullen but his first hit was she's the one. Another favorite of mine.
john...: I guess that depends on your definition of 'hit'. Brothers McMullen put him 'on the map' so to speak, though it was not a 'hollywood' hit. One of my favorites as well, along with Big Night...familiar?
me: I don't think he made much profit from bros.mcmullen; it did get him noticed. I say she's the one was his first HIT though since it will show in syndication as was a national theater release. I also think he did a fantastic job w/ ash Wednesday and spot on acting in confidence but I haven't been too impressed w/ him in the last few years. I just watched nice guy johnny and thought that was horrible.
Haven't seen big night but I have heard of it.
john...: wow...just talking with a friend about that very subject (ed burns) and how disappointed I was with his recent efforts. It's been a while since I've seen a movie that rocked my world both visually as well as acoustically. It was nice going back-n-forth. Gotta get to work. Enjoy what's left of your evening 'boom'.
me: ya - I agree. I didn't even really care for groomsmen either. I think ash wednesday was the last thing he wrote I liked.
honeydripper and crazy heart were probably the last movies that rocked me both visually, emotionally and musically.
have a good night.
