My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

is there an emoticon that conveys a "you're already on a local phoenix music forum" sentiment?
my board using smf has better emoticons than here. i had to load'em tho.

Gotta agree w/ Tony on this one--although with a less ironic/more constructive angle: unless you're making something to focus on a really specific sub-genre in the scene, I think it'd be more productive to help by drawing musicians and fans here ('n sending 'em to azpunk too). What happens here has evolved in a really organic community driven way, and if there's something you like that isn't represented here, then bring it to the table.

bam! tony?
look, man, i'm good at making snarky comments and obscure pop culture references. i don't have time to scour the web for emoticons. that's why i asked in the first place. but from now on, that one jeremx posted can be the official "you're on a local phoenix music forum" emoticon. use it wisely.

there is a ton of stuff out there which requires some research because depending on what you are more familiar with will determine what you use.
If you are more used to php, or perl, or python as far as a programming language. And as far as a database, some will only use a particular database such as mysql, postgres, or might work with an enterprise database like MSSQL or Oracle.
If you are on a budget, you will probably want to go with free
I use Invision Power Board, it uses PHP with a Mysql database, it costs money to get a license but they update on a regular basis and have a support center if I run into any issues (which I haven't had to use yet)
If you are planning on doing a music forum I wish you the best of luck!
Message board?
This is The Shizz.
Chromelodeon manages to get all the furniture from their hotel into the lake a few years back...and people are worried about shizzies?
