sweets and beats closing...

Husband-and-wife team Liam Murtagh and Emily Spetrino-Murtagh tell me that they've just decided to close their whimsical candy and record shop, Sweets & Beats, at the end of the month.
Blame it on the economy, yet again. It's the second unique indie business to close in the artsy, downtown section of Grand Avenue recently; Sapna Cafe also closed its doors last month.
Spetrino-Murtagh says that sales haven't been up to par in recent months, so they're liquidating their inventory this week and turning off the lights on January 31.
i never caught a show there but thought the idea was pretty awesome. shame to hear it didn't work out.

Boooo.
But, hopefully they'll get to refocus on their creative stuff, and raising some bitchin' kids!

i was optimistic that they could make it work, but that's a pretty tough location. it could really thrive in a different spot (a place like mill ave, alas) where they could lure in people who are already out and about shopping - then boom, all of the sudden they spend $10 on candy cigarettes and atomic fireballs. good luck emily and liam!

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

Blow out the wall and make trunk space ---------> TRUNK SPACE!
Don't think we haven't toyed w/ the idea, but there's just too many things that make it impossible.
Small IS mighty!
But . . . yea, we'd love to have another cool neighbor that we can compliment, so if you've got any cool ideas?
Things that don't work:
Print Shop--too smelly.
Practice space/venue--music vs. music sucks.
