Walk for Choice 2011 Rallies Planned Across the Globe
Pro-choice supporters around the world are organizing people protests against HR 3 on February 26th, 2011. Events are currently planned for Chicago, Los Angeles, D.C., Boston, Minneapolis, Alaska, the U.K. and Pakistan.
Chicago, IL – February 8, 2011 – Peaceful protests are planned for cities around the world in response to Congressional bill H.R. 3. The bill, called the “No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act,” was introduced by Rep. Christopher Smith (R-NJ). Pro-choice activist Raven Geary was horrified, and sprung into action immediately.
“I started organizing an event for Chicago right away,” Geary said. “Then people kept messaging me and saying they wanted to plan one for their city.”
Currently, Walk for Choice 2011 rallies are planned in cities like Chicago, Los Angeles, Boston, Washington D.C., Minneapolis, Alaska, the United Kingdom, and even Pakistan.
Protests are taking place from 12-3 p.m. on Saturday, February 26th.
Mohini Lal, one of the event organizers, said H.R. 3 threatens a woman’s bodily autonomy.
“The environment of political speech right now is dangerous for women,” Lal said. “Women are adults and should be treated as nothing less, but the current actions of Congress threaten individual autonomy on more than a medical level.”
Geary said that in light of the economic environment and high levels of unemployment, the GOP should be focusing on what they promised on the campaign trail: job creation.
“While most Americans are demanding jobs, the GOP seems to have made overturning Roe v. Wade its top priority. The recent events in Congress surrounding H.R. 3 (No Taxpayer Funding for Abortion Act) struck a nerve with activists here in Illinois,” Geary said. “We are now harnessing the power of social networking to organize demonstrations across the globe.”
People who are interested in organizing an event for their city or learning more about a Walk for Choice protest in their area should contact walkforchoice@gmail.com.

i was thinking:
ORPHANS NOT ABORTIONS?
BREWER HATES MY VAGINA/ME/YOU
CHOICE = FREEDOM
(with a picture of the American flag underneath for added effect)
WE CAN FUND TWO WARS BUT WE CAN'T AFFORD REPRODUCTIVE HEALTH CARE?
NASCAR CAN GO FUCK ITSELF
also this is a pretty comprehensive article on what's currently going on.

orange is the color of the shirts those "downtown helpers" wear. either that's going to make it look like there are more of you.. or more of them. you might get asked directions to herberger theater or something.
i know where the herberger is, i'll help people.

we walked around the phoenix convention center and got yelled at by tea bag douches! it was so fun!
a few notable lines heard from tea baggers:
"Whooo! Go Poverty!"
"you're mom choose to have you!" - to which several of us replied "Yeah and thank god she had the choice!"
one tea bagger asked me "are you getting paid for this?" - to which I replied "no, are you getting paid to stand around?" and when he said "no" i then said "get a job!" which caught him off-guard completely. then he laughed. then he took a picture of me smiling with a sign that said "Pro-Choice = Pro-America"
FACE.
i hope he jerks off to that photo of me every night until he dies and goes to hell.
We received lots of support from people on the street and lots of car honks etc. so fun!
