for some reason unknown to me, i've been getting really into foxes lately. they are cool animals!

there's a whole history on Soviet Russia trying to domesticate foxes and after 45 years they accomplished it but the foxes who were domesticated acquired dog-like traits. Dogs and foxes are both in the Wolf family so that make sense....

the silver fox was successfully domesticated in Russia after a 45 year selective breeding program. This selective breeding also resulted in physical and behavioral traits appearing that are frequently seen in domestic cats, dogs, and other animals, such as pigmentation changes, floppy ears, and curly tails.

female foxes are called Vixens and male foxes are called Reynards

anyway i dont know where i am going with this except that foxes are COOL.
and i will be posting pictures of them in this thread.

In Finnish mythology, the fox is depicted usually a cunning trickster, but seldom evil. The fox, while weaker, in the end outsmarts both the evil and voracious wolf and the strong but not-so-cunning bear. It symbolizes the victory of intelligence over both malevolence and brute strength.

Fennec Foxes are social animals that mate for life, with each pair or family controlling their own territory. The species usually breeds only once each year. The copulation tie has been recorded as lasting up to two hours and 45 minutes. Following mating, the male becomes very aggressive and protective of the female, providing her with food during her pregnancy and lactation periods.

Foxes are pretty awesome although last summer I'm pretty sure a fox chased a friend and I out of another friend's yard when we were hanging out by a little fire. Foxes can make hellish noises, and whatever creature chased us did so. It was pitch-black out otherwise, so hearing that screeching, snarling noise accelerating toward us only made us want to get the hell out of there as quick as possible. After the fact I surmised it was likely a fox, but even though they are not so big, if it was willing to chase two grown dudes, it was probably not meant to be fucked with.
