what do you guys think of using xtranormal videos as marketing tools or tutorial videos? i'm toying with the idea of using some for my domain/hosting site ( http://indieweb.co ). waste of time or just entertaining enough to work?

i'll take 36 views and 0 replies to mean people either are not familiar with it or don't have an opinion either way. not very promising for the use of it to market. i think i'm still going to tinker with it.

If there are no legal repercussions from using xtranormal's engine for your own profit, then I would say it's worth a go.

There's no real investment to doing it other than time put in, so go for it. :)

Personally, I think that those movies are dumb.  However, their TOS doesn't really seem to prevent commercial use, as long as you make sure to point out that you didn't actually create the movie....

yeah.. it looks like i really wouldn't have a problem using it on my site for how i want to use it. my question was more along the lines of would you watch it as a tutorial for why someone might need a domain name or hosting.. or would you discount it as stupid upon seeing it? i know some people think they're cute or clever and other people just think they're dumb. so i'm trying to get a halfway decent representation (as much as i can from here) about what the reaction to any i put up on my site might be.

thanks for the input, everyone.

you have to pay a couple bucks to use some certain sets, characters, etc. it's all pretty cheap but there is a tiny investment. but yeah.. the time is the real investment as it's not easy to get it to pronounce things exactly how you would like and there are a ton of camera angles, facial expressions, and hand gestures to pick from.

hmm as someone who is not very knowledgeable in the areas of webernetzing i would probably watch a tutorial. sometimes reading all the help support text is so confusing/hard. i think providing both would be good. tutorial videos that actually show someone's computer screen doing the work are also very helpful.

yeah.. i keep bouncing back and forth between doing the goofy ones like these or doing an actual video capture with my dorky voice over the top of it telling people how to do shit. i'll likely end up doing both. maybe some over the weekend. i'll post what i come up with and ya'll can tell me if/how much it sucks or if it'll do. thanks for the input.
