I don't live near Mill Ave., I don't live near the bus line (would have to do three bus transfers to get there and then need to get a ride back since the bus only runs til 10 or 11), and I don't know anyone who could give me a ride from North Phoenix. If I'm already making an effort to get to more shows but I am worried about my car getting towed, there's no way in hell I'm going if I have to worry about some asshole towing co. or/and business owner (who also owns the tow co.) baiting my car into their hands. No offense to any of the bands playing Mill Ave., but I won't go to your show unless it's safe for me to be there.

I am officially pissed off enough to re-start a dead-tree paper zine, and I will be venting about this further offline and on paper.

your car isn't going to get towed unless you park in front of a "don't park here because your car is going to get towed" sign. if you pay to park in a lot, ask the guy if you can leave it overnight. he'll say yes. there aren't enough tow trucks in phoenix to tow every car that gets left there every weekend.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

And since you're probably talking about the one place near mill that has live music and is running such a scam, you should put your car's info on their "do not tow list" when you get there. It's a scam, sure, but there's a very easy way around it.

It's not my responsibility to have to tell someone to put my car on a "do not tow list" when I go to a show. What if I tell the wrong person? What if they forget?

If a band plays at a house in my neighborhood, you can park on my driveway for $1.

while it sounds shady as hell if some venue is setting people up to get towed, i'm in relative agreement here. you have to take some responsibility to make sure you're covered. just park in the lot by the old bash on ash. i've almost always been able to find a spot there. or go a little farther into the neighborhoods off 5th.

and what venue on mill is showing shows worth going to these days? (i'm not being facetious, i'm actually curious as i'm rarely down there anymore)

said venue has a parking lot for customers. being that parking is a hot fuckin' commodity along mill there, i'm sure they have a problem with people parking there who are not customers. i don't see it as shady to say "Yo, if'n you be a patron of our shoppe, please scribe thine name on this enchanted parchment of protection."

This is the funniest thing to read.

Why not just park in a neighborhood nearby and walk your lazy ass a couple blocks?

tons of businesses have this problem. this is the first time i've heard of a list but it sounds like they're trying to take care of their own patrons. as long as they're letting people know about the list as they're coming in then i see no problem with it. if it's clearly marked that this is their lot for their patrons and if you park there, you're getting towed, and you park there anyway and take off for somewhere else, yeah.. you should get towed.

1. the fixx is a wonderful little venue ran by very nice people that do NOT want to have your shit towed.
2. the tow truck drivers are the ones responsible, they park next to jack in the box and wait like fucking sharks.
3. every time i have been there, they make you put your car on the do not tow list when you get a ticket/walk in/ anything. they make it easy to do.
4. the tow company tows cars there for good fucking reason. imagine trying to go to a show that you would like to see and the lot that they own is filled with douchebag club frat fucks going down to party. id be pissed

The fixx is a good place, they are good to me and I am good to them so dont go dragging a venues name through the fucking mud without good warrant.
