Okay...so I know AZ is not the greatest state in the US, but to be voted the worst by a bunch wacko New Yorker bloggers who probably have never set foot in AZ is to me a frieghtnening picture of where the media is heading. BTW they voted New York to be the best state in the US...pahleease...been there done that and no thanks...

The sheriff of the area is an insane lunatic cowboy wannabe who rules the town like Gene Hackman in the The Quick and the Dead. Alabama's batshit immigration law was inspired by Arizona's own SB 1070, a racist and xenophobic piece of legislation representative of Arizona's roiling immigration crisis that was signed into law by the state's governor Jan Brewer, a perky-eyed psychopath who speaks in tongues.

Ok I agree with this statement so as not to completley turn in my democrat card with my earlier rant about the Leftards in New York. But I do take up issue with extremes from both political parties because they only believe in there way or no way.

Arizona is swiftly devolving into a dystopic free-for-all of armed mad men patrolling the state with guns, often to disastrous effect. (As witnessed in the Gaby Giffords incident — though, c'mon, you can't blame Arizona for Jared Loughner any more than you can blame Colorado for Columbine.)

and this is written in just bad taste. Laxed gun laws were not to blame for this...a lunitic was. I am not saying our gun laws are that great either...but saying something like this is taking some of the blame of the crazy who person fired the weapon.

To give the Grand Canyon the only props for the state just shows how ignorant these douche bags in New York are. They are also the ones that think howling coyotes and "teal" are how we all decorate our homes out here... they could have at least given us Bisbee and Jerome as other awesome cities other than Flagstaff.

i agree with what you're saying there. i'm pretty damn proud of this state. to the point that i tend to piss off friends when i tell them that they're assholes for leaving to "better" states. that they should stay here and make it better instead of abandoning the rest of us.

the only things i like about this state are the shizz, spring training, mexican food, and u of a basketball. i don't feel a whole lot of pride otherwise, and i feel like i have to apologize to people from other states when they ask where i'm from. are we the worst? probably not. but i'm not even remotely surprised when we end up at the bottom of a list like that.

Obviously the person that did that up merely googled about AZ and based their assumptions on the headlines, which you have to admit are pretty damning. Other states are probably way worse, but the extremes in AZ make headlines and that's what the world sees.

See that's why I don't put any stock in online "top 10 lists" or whatever. They almost always end up being stupid, and politically motivated or have some other agenda.

Yeah AZ has their problems with idiot public officials, stupid laws, and the wages suck, but it is far from the worst state.

I mean seriously, the following states better than AZ? I've personally been to most of these, and they are either utter shit holes, or places so depressing and boring you would slit your wrists if you had to live there.

Arkansas is the worst state I've been in. My first time there was on the way out to moving here. I stopped at the first rest stop I could because within 10 minutes driving in Arkansas I could not take it anymore. After that it was just miles pointless traffic delays and typical southern fields with broken down shacks and houses. The Ozarks were nice but not as nice as I expected.

texas was the worst for me. they paint my state pretty bad too. i mean, yeah, the whole casey anthony thing was IN orlando (where i live) but no everyone is a crazy baby killer...... i promise...

Agreed. NY is an amazing place and NYC is city living at its finest but unless one wants to live with multiple roomies in a space the size of a closet you have to make some serious money to exist there!

A pat and a punch there for NYC. In fact, each state in the union has its pros and cons so I find that article a little tough to digest........Viva AZ. Viva CA and Viva NY for that matter!

There's things I love about this city, but a lot of AZ makes me cringe.
Even though I wouldn't call us "the worst" I would put AZ in the bottom 10, maybe even bottom 5 for quality of life.

My chief complaint is the horrid quality of the schools here.
I don't blame the schools, for I know it's the legislature who're doing everything possible to cripple them.
I would not send a kid to public school in this state; which is exactly what the Reps here want.

2nd would be politics: We have a 1 party state, there's no way to mount an opposition to the dominant system. Are they always wrong? No, but the inability to incorporate decent workable ideas just because there's a D attached to them is criminal.

3rd top complaint would be the absurd intolerance among the population, on both sides.
I live with moderate beliefs, and the day-to-day encounters I have with people from both ends of the gov/religion/social perspective just crush me.

Word. But I don't think that is just Arizona. It's every fucking where. I consider myself a centrist in the truest sense of the term. Maybe center-slight left, overall, but I am more about common sense and live and let live. There are some ideas I like and don't like from both the left and the right. It seems that the only ones who have any power, though, are the extremes of one side or the other.
