I've got a bad feeling about this...

Star Wars is out on Blu-Ray today, so I thought I'd take an opportunity to do a little George Lucas bashing.
Take a look...

laserdisc versions, you say?For now, Star Wars is dead to me. I'm hoping that after Lucas dies then the studios can do the obvious thing and release simple remastered versions of the originals (essentially the laser disc versions in high def). I wonder who will inherit the rights when he dies and if they will have the good sense to allow a return to the originals.
God what a fucktard.

Apparently the laser disc versions are the best available if you want the original theatrical releases without any tinkering.
Unless you want to go with unofficial stuff:
By the way, if you want to see what the Blu-rays could have been, I highly recommend these HD reconstructions of the Original Trilogy, no Special Edition nonsense included...

EDIT:
Wait, apparently the laser disc versions were 4:3 and were included as special features in a later DVD release. Apparently the 1995 VHS which is in a letter boxed cinema presentation is as good as it gets... Maybe. Now I'm confused.

Yes, the laserdisc versions are on the 2006 DVD release as bonus discs. They are non-anamorphic and generally considered poor quality by today's standards. Here's a good article on them:

And yes, check out the fan restorations I posted - they're pretty amazing.
