I was just checking in to see if anyone knew more about the passing of Joel Olson. I didn't see it mentioned, so I posted this in case there were folks on here who knew him, but were unaware that he passed away a few days ago.

I wrote some words here about my memories of Joel as just a passing acquaintance, and I included a whole ton of links to just some of all the great stuff he did over the years. To sum up...

-Hippycore zine/label/collective
-Soy Not Oi vegan cookbook
-Profane Existence zine/collective
-the band Pissed
-Bring The Ruckus organization/newsletter
-activist group Phoenix Copwatch
-the book "The Abolition of White Democracy"
-lots and lots of activism, anti-racist lectures, etc.

My most distinct memories of him are at Modified and at places around Tempe. Always really nice. I admired all he did. I was glad to have stayed in touch with him a little after we both left Phoenix. I feel really bad for mine and his mutual friends, who all were a lot closer to him than I was. Even for as little as I knew the guy, I feel horrible about his death.

There's a community on Facebook called Remembering Joel Olson, with info about a fund for his family.

Big loss to the world. But Joel contributed a lot!
