hi...so continuing my trend of asking people on the shizz about stuff when im about to go to another town, what food/music/nerd spots do i need to hit up in flagstaff? i havent been in like 5 years, and even then i had someone who lived there to guide me. i tried looking for some blogs from up there and found nothing that was actually helpful. is there a site where i can find shows? stuff like this. any help is greatly appreciated

Just go find Feel Free and stalk them.

I haven't been there in ages, but I remember a place called Kathy's was good for food. Check out the Monte Vista for music. There's probably a lot more someone more in the know can expound on.

edit> forget about Kathy's, it's closed. http://www.yelp.com/...-cafe-flagstaff

um yeah... find Feel Free.

Feel Free is a great flag band! and they are gracious hosts.

Mia's does live music up there, there's a good thai restaurant next door to it too and a good hot dog place down the street that stays open late. i would also recommend MartAnne's Cafe on San Francisco st for good mexican breakfast food!!!

I need to go back to Martan's sometime because the only time I ate there I tried to eat huevos rancheros on a hang over and the jalepenos pushed me over the limit. couldn't finish, must try again.

Fratelli's Pizza is yummo. Dara Thai is the good Thai place. Primo's is the good hot dog place. I don't know why people like Martanne's. The one time I went there with my ladyfriend, our food tasted rotten and cost a fortune. Biff's Bagels is good too.

if you don't get the chilaquiles the first time you go to martanne's you're doing it wrong. if you don't like garlic, you won't like martanne's. if you don't like getting breakfast and not having to eat again till 6pm, you won't like Martanne's. i've (shamefully) recently discovered that the full pizzas (not slices) at nimarco's are as good as fratelli's. both are great. in my opinion, and this is strongly contested, the best mexican food is at los altenos on milton, by strombollis which is an okay place to get italian style soup/salad/pizza/calzones/etc. there's no good place for mexican downtown (other than martanne's, which closes at 3, and is kind of a different deal.) tacos locos is decent if you've been drinking and it's late. i haven't tried them all but all the thai places seem to be about the same. dara thai is good. i wouldn't recommend the sushi at karma, but ray walker might.

there's a record store downtown called rock-it-man that is decent, depending on what you're looking for, but sucks compared to say, oh, stinkweeds. or even, god, zia's. the bookstore next door is pretty cool. there's crappy boutiques and stuff all around downtown, as you already know, if you need any ladies things.

an occasionally useful blog (like when they repost stuff from my blog): http://fuckyeahflagstaff.tumblr.com/

there's a show at sundara, which is right downtown tonight, with the fantastic, them savages. i don't know if there's any house shows this weekend. explosions in sky and zammuto are on sunday at the oriface, i mean orpheum. i just saw that come on die young is playing at the worst bar in town that same night. (the cinnabar) i feel bad for them. i've never seen a show there with people in attendance and haven't gone to one since the glimpse trio played (i was the only one there. couldn't convince anyone to go there.)

i think the weather is going to be stellar this weekend, but i'm assuming that's when you're talking about, which is probably wrong.

oh, and i've recently discovered the 'bird on a wire' at the flag coffee company. it's porter and espresso and tastes like heaven and works like sparks.

I prefer Pato Thai on San Fransisco (a few businesses down from the Monte Vista) over Dara Thai.
I agree on MartAnnes for a delicious breakfast! Expect a wait for a table, especially on a weekend, though. It's tiny!

Mia's is a lovely music venue/bar - very dog friendly... so maybe not recommended if you dislike dogs. I like Brews & Cues (owned by Beaver Street Brewery, and right next door) for happy hour... cheap $3.50 (locally brewed) imperial pints and trivia on the TVs.
Flag Brew is awesome for sitting out on the patio on a sunny day for food/local beer.

We like beer in Flagstaff. B)

This was very helpful to me as well. I'm anticipating a trip to Flagstaff for their Pride sooner than later. This will be referenced for later.
