Hello.

I'm David and I'm starting an Afrobeat band here in Phoenix.

I've had false starts before, but this time I can feel the Universe uniting behind the effort.

There are already a few of us, but there is room for a collective of musicians interested in this music; to play, to record, to perform

i guess the question is, who else is?

For reference:

Fela Anikulapo Kuti
Antibalas
Jungle By Night
Seun Kuti & Egypt 80
Manu Dibango
Orlando Julius & His Afro-Sounders

I know this is a long shot, but I'm looking at all avenues available for optimal success.

Post here, pm me or whatever.

I may use this thread as a go to for posting Afrobeat subject matter as pertinent.

Thank you for your participation!

One of my favorite guitar players is the dude who played (plays?) for Orchestra Baobab (Pirate's Choice era).

I'd be in if I had more time.

Orchestre Baobab is awesome.

A lot more afro cuban latin jazzy sounding.

Anyone familiar with Highlife, or Juju styles of West African, Nigeria-centric funk?
