Have any of you boys and girls tried to make t-shirts at home?
I hear there are inexpensive silk screening kits on the market.
Any luck with any of these?

It was fun! But we decided it was too much work since we are all lazy lazy bastards and found a guy who printed up T's for us for something like $1 more than we were spending making our own, so we went that route for our second batch. We still have a ton of the second batch, too. Yeah, our shirts sell like hot chocolate in July.

you should try "preston designs" they are in west mesa, my friend ryan singer works there, they did the hotfoughtcold tees, and they were better then my "use way too much ink" technique when i made our first shirts, pretty reasonable. alas i have lost ryans number in the move, i will look for a website.

All the time when I tell people what I do they say, "Oh I don't understand art, I can't even draw." (or worse, "I only like art I can understand.") Well, ya know what, I don't know how to make a car, but I sure appreciate being able to drive one.

I'm only looking to make like 10 shirts so I was thinking the cheaper way to go would be to do it at home.
What's a good price for 1 color on a black or white shirt?

Sometimes its O.k. to go S.E.D.I.F.Y.* especially if you're not incredibly crafty!

I know that I am guilty of giving people shit on the board for not doing the research themselves so I am officially humbling myself now to you all. I am not doing my own research. Thanks for your support.

Can I get a kit at Michaels or something?

Whatever happened to the Glass Cage at Valley West Mall?

Can I reuse the silk screen at a later date?

Thanks for the offer, Richard. I'll take you up on it when I get the kit.

you use to be able to get a kit a michaels (i got one there a few years ago). probably still can. you can use the same screen for different designs. you just bleach it out when you're done. if you leave the same design in for a really long time, sometimes it'll clog up some parts or all of the screen.

silkscreen kits are sold for like 40 bucks or less. you just gotta find them on sale! and they come with EVERYTHING. except shirts, of course. you can find them at your local craft store or your favorite art supply store.

for realz, yo.

silkscreening rules. but no one wants to buy my teeshirts.

i guess no one cares about narcissistic with no self esteem!

theres a really good store over off the 1-17... I can't rememmer what its called, but its BIG, but get:

a premade screen

a jar of fabric ink for silk screening.

a photo emulsion kit. (two bottles: made by speedball)

a squeegee

masking tape

and thats about it......call me at my house in the evening, and I can give you extra details...R
