bad news folks.. i knew that the emerald lounge would be closing its doors on sept 15th for what i thought. a renovation period. now it seems that they might be closing their doors for good. from what i hear, starbucks wants the whole fucking building and not just a piece of it. yeah, that's what this town needs, another fucking coffee shop... another venue bites the dust.

So Starbucks just decided they wanted the whole thing? And the Emerald said yes? Or were they forced to give it to them?

This just means we'll have to be as messy as possible at this show for those corporate assholes. We encourage people to bring their own messy things to fling around as well.

Oh, and if anyone decided to actually patronize this Emerald-displacing Starbucks, I'd tell them to fuck right off.

Well..I hate to say to much, not having spoken with Greg, the owner of the Emerald myself...but it sounds like he may try to find another venue. I've also heard that he may not. But...either way , it's still the last night at the Emerald we've all come to know and love.

The Emerald had already been pushed out of the downstairs, and was going to take the upstairs..until they were pushed out of there too.The Emerald only rents there , so it's not like they have a say. Someone stands to make money and that's always the bottom line. What I find ironic though, is that land developers, having noticed the downtown scene growing what with first friday and all, have started to plan building in the downtown area. With each step they take towards making downtown more "habitable" , they destroy a part of the scene that is a key selling point in their investments.God Bless America.

i noticed a nice big dirt lot right next to the emerald on friday night.

i do believe it would be cheaper to just build a coffee apartment there than it would be to try to renovate the smokey lounge into a hospitable coffication establishment.

perhaps i should give mr. starbuck a call and let him know that leaving the emerald open would save him some dough? or maybe i should just drink some more water, sober up, and go to sleep? i don't know. its a tough call.

I hated the Emerald....the smoke, the shitty bands, the weird line-ups, bad art, the awful PA....

yet, with all that said, I'll miss it.

I had a lot of fun times there with some great people...some of my very favorite people,,,I hope that I get to see that mix of people elsewhere....I'm sad. Seriously.

this town, man...this town...

I was down in Txn town this weekend, Club Congress was celebrating it's 20th year of live music.

:(

For the Emerald:

Thanks for the times
That you’ve given me
The memories are all in my mind
And now that we’ve come
To the end of our rainbow
There’s something
I must say out loud
You’re once, twice
Three times a lady
Yes you’re once twice
Three times a lady

And I love you

dddds have only had 3 shows so far.....and the first 2 were at emerald. hah...so we were one of the shitty bands.

but that's what was amazing about it. that anyone could say "hey we're a band. can we play?" and no matter how terrible or how amateur the band, they'd have a show within a couple weeks. greg gave everyone a chance. so, this is pretty sad.

but.. there's still hope. if everyone just switches to a more adult contemporary, acoustic sound, maybe we can all still play in that same building.

there are a couple of old timer pubs downtown that are pretty cool. too bad they don't cater to bands who play originals.
