I just posted a video I made from software I "evaluated" Using Limewire. there are other apps, but Limewire is the easiest to get started. I also use the pro version (I paid the 18 bucks for a year) because the downloads are much faster, and that really makes a big difference.

My thesis is called the "Black-Emperor-Says Theory" and holds that any any Phoenix-area indie rock festival there is a 100 percent probability that Emperors of Japan, Black Carl, and/or What Laura Says will be on the bill.

If you have a nice computer, don't surf the net with it if at all possible. Well, if you actually want to do anything with it that is. Myspace will load your computer with CRAP faster than you could ever possibly imagine. seriously.
If you need evaluation software, use torrents. and as far as music goes, you should be buying it from stinkweeds! duh!
on a seperate note:
does anyone know what the bin file for protools is named?

I have two computers.
I use one for net surfing, the other I keep disconnected from the internet except to access CDDB info for itunes, and for updates for software I have installed. I use the disconnected one for video editing, 3d modelling, and music recording.
the two computers are almost identical, as far as hd space, processor and ram. The one I surf the net with is considerably slower. All the virus and spyware protection in the world really doesn't help that much. It just accumulates no matter how hard you try to get rid of it. Keeping the computer that I need for higher end applications disconnected from the internet has paid off.
fo' realz.
oh and F-You microsoft.

mac spyware is just better at not slowing down your system. it works in more mysterious ways. Look at the ministore in itunes. How does it know to display cds, etc. by other artists or the same artist as the file that you just clicked? SPYWARE! that's how!look into it!Use a mac... I haven't had one problem, ever.
If I had a mac, I would get a good one, and I would still keep the thing off the internet. It;s just too damn risky. plus, I want to know if my privacy is being violated.

You make a good point jesse....while Mac spyware is limited it is out there...you can get software that helps but ultimately things do get slowed down...but PC's its like feeding a virgin girl to a pack of hungry velacaraptors...the moment you hook up a PC to the net its attacked by that shizzat...and one day that same shizzat will be attacking macs....if I had two computers jesse i would exactly what you are doing...mac spyware is just better at not slowing down your system. it works in more mysterious ways. I just upgraded the desktop to dual monitor. I love it! I have a friend up here that bought two of the largest flat panel displays that dell makes, his desktop is like 4 feet wide. it's incredible.

soulseek and bittorrent are all you need.
hopefully windows vista will have better permissions, then viruses and spyware won't be as bad.
