a survey-

hypothetically.... if you had some $ burning a hole in your pocket, what would you buy:

< $100:

$100-300:

> $300 (open wishlist):

FOR ME--

< $100: used made-in-china tube amp, like epiphone galaxie 10 or valve jr

$100-300: old harmony or kay beater electric, reasonably functional condition, hollowbody preferred, but a 50's harmony stratotone would be cool too....

> $300 (open wishlist): guessing that my next big purchase will be a gibson es-335 or something in that spirit. I've been thinking a lot about the gretsch duo-jet lately, too. gonna have to win the lottery before I'm really in the market for either.

<$100 - George L's pedal cable kit although one of those Epi Valve Jr's would be cool to mess around with.

$100 - $300 - Boss Micro BR or a set of Fralin Twangmaster pickups

> $300 - there's a lot of stuff in this category. I won't even go into it.

< $100 - maybe an equilizer pedal or an a/b selector

$100-300 - probably get some work done on my epiphone les paul... new electronics, pickups, re-fret, complete set-up, etc.

> $300 (open wishlist) - 57 gibson les paul gold top, some sort of matchless amp

< $100 maybe a nice tuner

$100 - $300 pickups or something

> $300 Excalibur... Fender Stratocaster with triple single coil pickups and a whammy bar. Pre-CBS Fender corporate buy-out. I'd raise the bridge and take the buzz out of the low E.

<100 What John said about the George L's

100-300 Probably a new neck and body to finish up my project guitar. Or a fairly nice mic, like a rode nt-1. or a zvex fuzz factory. or wooly mammoth.

>300 Eventually, an Egnater amp ideally. Runner ups include a scott french guitar or an old les paul deluxe with mini humbuckers. Or possibly a Firebird.

There are so many nice things to get if I had money...

gonna have to revise my list... since I went ahead and bought the epiphone valve jr that was in my <$100 category.

so

<$100 -- probably a good-enough proper case for my gibson LP special dc, since it's living in a crappy gig bag right now.

what's the asking price on that little marshall again? couldn't afford it now, but maybe after the holidays? bet it'd be a good match for the same gibson I mentioned above.... argh....

I've got a nice 1977 puch moped that I'm thinking about selling, if anyone were interested in such a thing? bought it a few months back and have barely used the thing. that would finance another gear purchase of some sort. thinking about trying to find one of the Johnson Carolina series acoustics. JO-27 specifically. oh I've got sickness.

I'm asking $700 for it now, seems like that's the going rate on ebay for this sort of amp. Negotiable...

I'm now seriously considering buying one of these, Gibson SG standard

I can highly recommend the SG. I've got a special from the late 90's that I absolutely love. It plays fantastic and sounds great. It really works wonders for me. Even though my G&L is a nicer looking guitar, I always tend to go to the SG for the tone and playability.

I'd channel all the money into getting me some damn lessons and learning how to REALLY play...

edit: that sounds like I'm suggesting that to other people...I'm not, I really want lessons for myself!

i had an epiphone les paul for a while that had great sound (for it being an epiphone). but i hated the balance of that guitar. the way the strap attaches to the back, the neck was always falling when i took my hands off. and with the double cut, the neck seems to be so much longer too. especially since i am a short guy... i felt real small behind that thing. so yeah, i don't like the sg for rather lame reasons.

tell you who looks real small behind an SG: angus young. you see a 'normal' sized gent playing an SG, you realize what small instrument it is and just how out-of-proportion angus is. I'm a fan of the SG, it's just a little too... pointy for my tastes.

< $100: Definitely a new tuner
$100 - $300: Line 6 Delay Modeler
> $300: New bass, maybe a Sadowsky P/J, maybe some other P-type bass. Or a large digital multitrack.
