on craigslist, there's a johnson (not sure what model) for sale for $100 or less.
naw, it's a very specific johnson I'm lookin' for. last I checked, they were back ordered for months through the dealers...
the "carollina" series johnsons, and specifically the solid wood 26/27 series guitars are potentially the next great thing in budget acoustic guitars. built almost exactly to martin pre-war specs, but without the cheesy 'glitz' of the blueridge guitars. solid woods, thin tops, forward shifted bracing, chunky v-shaped neck, beveled pickguard, diamond volute on the neck. they're still working out some of the kinks to get production consistency up to an acceptable standard. but they represent something VERY different from the crappy johnsons I've always seen. solid engelman spruce & EI rosewood 000-sized will probably be a $500-600 instrument w/ case. maybe they're readily available now? haven't checked in a while. Supposed to be like Blueridge guitars, but with more of a focus on quality materials and less on flashy inlay. I love my blueridge, so I'm mostly just curious what an even-better sounding martin copy would be like.
